I am looking for a lightweight Linux distro which I would install on my potato alongside Windows. It should be low on resources and also not totally command line.please help Fedi :ablobcatbongo:

@mur2501 My first idea would be Lubuntu, but there are others that are suitable for older computers.

@mur2501 If you aren't going in on @elementary then I would check out BunsenLabs Linux - https://www.bunsenlabs.org

@mur2501 Puppy. IIRC my preferred puppy is tahrpup, for Arch-esque or XFCE-related reasons, but any puppy with a DE is great and small.Downside: "Install" is a bit liberally defined. I haven't managed to get it running off a harddisk yet. I should just dd it on at some point.

@matt Ahh yes I have tried Bunsenlab but just I am confused on how to install it along side windows. Like I created a partiotion on my Hard Disk for installing it but when I try to install it then it only shows the whole Hard drive and not the partitions :ablobcatgrumpy:

@mur2501 Hmmm, interesting. Tbh, I haven't used it since it was called Crunchbang Linux so can't help you there. When I used it, I really enjoyed it though. Very lightweight and fast and clean.

@mur2501 Okay. Another one would be puppylinux - someone suggested it to me for an old laptop. I haven't tried it yet.

@matt I also like it very much in my experiences with all the linuxes yet, just very afraid to try to install due to fear of wiping out windows and other stuffs.

@Cedara I would be trying out Bodhi Linux and Linux Lite from here probably, its surprising they don't have BunsenLabs in the list

@mur2501Looking from your spec, it’s good to enable zram (memory compression). Every distro should support it, but i know ubuntu-based and arch-based distro have easy script to enable it every boot

@mur2501 How low on resources are we talking? I run Mint MATE on an old desktop with a Pentium 4. I don't know how well it'd work on a potato, but if it already runs Windows I have a hard time seeing how you'd have trouble.

@mur2501 That's plenty of power then! I actually don't know of any distro that *wouldn't* work on those specs. Maybe not with wobbly windows and other wasteful applications of processing power, but for general use just get whatever you like.

@khird Ahh yes for linux it is quite good I can run most though I would still like a lightweight non-sugar OS. Apart from that I will only have 25 GB to allocate when I install it alongside windows so that's why don't want a big bulky distro.
