I didn't panic.Instead, I looked up the symptoms of "visual migraine," and they exactly matched what was happening.I'd had one before, but this time it looked REALLY bad. The purple moon was shimmering and pulsating, and the blind spot was like a kaleidoscope.Since the symptoms were identical for both eyes, I lay down and listened to YouTube with my eyes closed. The symptoms went away in half an hour, as promised.

@ThomasWic welcome to auras with migraines. The bane of my existence. I always know I am going to go blind in one eye when I start to see them.. dull headache.. malaise. Tomorrow you may feel hungover... don’t bend over, try to lift things, or get up too quickly- pulsating pressure. Drink caffeine.. it helps. Dark room.. get off the screens. ❤️🙏🏼

I'm the only member of my family who isn't a hysterical hypochondriac. This helps me deal with medical crises. It's ghastly dealing with people who can;'t be reached. Not only are my family hypochondriacs, they have to EXPRESS their panic.Note that I didn't liveblog my visual migraine.AND.I'm always deeply grateful when issues turn out to be minor.Hypochondriacs totally lack gratitude.Too many roads lead to bitterness. And bitterness is fatal.END

@ThomasWic I've suffered two. I never have pain or a headache with them. Mine show up with incredibly bright vivid colors and lightning-type bolts with metallic pieces jutting through everything. It's so beautiful and nothing I've ever seen outside of the migraines. They're innocuous, per my ophthalmologist. Someone mentioned scintillating scotomata, which is exactly correct. This may be a stupid statement, but I miss having them. Psychedelic trip without the drugs.

@ThomasWic Mine are jagged colorful lights. The first time they manifested, I was at work, and teared up telling my supervisor about it, thinking it was a big deal. Now when they happen, I actually love to see the lights expand until they fade. Can't see too good until it fades though.

@ThomasWic I’ve had strange visual migraines my whole life. No medicine helped. I discovered about a decade ago, if I chug a ton of water (32 oz or more) at the first visual sign, I solve the pain aspect 100%. Still feel a little strange and have odd vision- but no pain. Haven’t needed even an advil for a migraine since.

@ThomasWic I occasionally get a migraine "aura" similar to this. A bright jagged edge shiny image in my field of view that starts off small then gets bigger that blurs some of my vision for about 15 minutes. It goes away. I get a dull headache after for about 12 hours. Dehydration usually causes it.

@ThomasWic I'm very familiar w/this since I've had ophthalmic migraines off & on since the 90s. It always starts w/ a blind spot in the middle, the kaleidoscope patterns vary w/each episode & they always last exactly 20 min. I thought they were triggered by bright light but nobody seems to know what triggers them. Constriction of the blood vessels in the eye apparatus. Sometimes one, sometimes a cluster over a few days. I panicked the 1st time, but now it's no big deal. Annoying, that's all.

@ThomasWic I've had similar where it looked like a lightning bolt across my vision, but just in one eye. I layed down with my eyes closed for an hour or so and it went away. That was also a symptom of a eye migraine. It is nice to be able to find quick answers to what could cause it and take the fear away. Glad that all is OK.

@ThomasWic -I’ve had migraines (no auras)for years. Lost many days with ice pack in my head trying to sleep it off. Recently I tried a sample of Imitrex that a physician gave me years ago. Migraine was gone in 30-45 minutes. I now have a Rx that I keep with me at all times-changed my life.

@DonnaLea I've had scintillating scotomas since the 80's. The first time was in med school after a night of 'ahem' indulgence. I usually get them once every few years when either very stressed or on no sleep or both. They're pretty and pass within 30 minutes. I never get the migraine headache that goes along with it, luckily. @2020_DJT @ThomasWic

@ThomasWic Oh my gosh - those episodes are rather scary though. I was with a co-worker who had one - at a team building event of all things. All of sudden she couldn’t see a thing - the worst part is she couldn’t communicate well at the time.I was a cardiac nurse so I could only think stroke. I understood then why she had a fear of driving. Haha she got to go home and missed team building.
