So in about a month and a half when I switch from Comcast to T-Mobile these are probably the speeds I'll be getting during peak usage hours. My download speed will get nerfed from 210~220 Mbps to 90~100 Mbps but my upload speed will get turbocharged from 10~12 Mbps to 30~40 Mbps. That's enough for 4K movie nights! I'm fine with the nerf to 90~100 Mbps as that's enough for my uses but the main attraction is the nearly 4x increase in upload speed. Upload speed is the only reason I'm on the plan I'm on (tier lower is only 5 Mbps). Not only will I get a boost to upload speed but I'll also no longer have a data cap which will allow me to do some really cool things in the future!Plus all my data will be over 5G so it'll be turbocharged with COVID-19 to make my shitposts 15% more powerful! :corona_chan_dance:7324096668.png

@sjw I don't think you picked very cheap offers...? Can't believe how bad these ISPs are.

@do My only other option is AT&T for twice the price, ¼ the speed, and a 300GB/mo data cap.

@s8n I guess because most normies only consoom so they only need enough upload to sustain the max download. That's why you see plans like 300 Mbps down 4 Mbps up.

@tn5421 @BlinkRape @s8n They literally can't use it all with their router setup.

@BlinkRape @s8n @tn5421 Not quite but literally everything is connected over Wi-Fi to a router with a 1 GHz dual core ARM processor with 32 MB of RAM. It can do gigabit speeds over Ethernet but over Wi-Fi you're limited to about 150 Mbps unless the routing tables for the whole network exceeds around 18 MB then shit gets slow af.The router advertised itself as 2100 Mbps. Yeah, sure, in theory based on the wireless spec you supported but real world speeds would be lower. However that's irrelevant due to your fucking garbage hardware you put behind it that's the actual limiting factor.

@sjw Tiny data caps! On a wired connection! Incredible! Do you not have very pointy, unpleasant pitch forks?500/50 for households with cable TV was the top standard offer residential speed around 6-7 years ago (then ~200/20 or such via phone IIRC).But of course since then FTTH rolled out…

@do @sjw You haven't been to a small town. My city's so rural that AT&T only offers 7MB down U-Verse internet and FTTH isn't a thing here. Most of this town seems to feel like it's stuck in the '90s as well.

@camedei456 @do My parent's city only has 2 stoplights and they got gigabit FTTH before they got a McDonald's.Nearest city with a Walmart is a 30 minute drive.Still have gigabit FTTH.
