From day one this little wisp of an eleven year-old girl, so delicate and frail, was beyond shy. She was petrified. All the time. It took a TWO MONTHS to gain enough trust to get her to even utter a tiny sound in class. She didn't like being called on or put in the spotlight.Whenever it came time for her to read aloud I would just kneel next to her desk, so that only I could hear her teeny mousy whisper of a voice.

As weeks wore on she loosened up, started laughing more and more, and gained LOADS of courage - and acceptance from classmates in the process.The class she was in eventually graduated to the next level just as I was reassigned to mostly university work and gifted student classes only. That was the last I saw of her.Following is the email reply I got from her that made my year. And made me laugh pretty hard. Keep in mind she could barely communicate when I first met her.

@KodiakIsland Most foreign teachers who come to Vietnam aren't teachers at all. They're just native speakers.They don't understand the speech pathology from VN to EN, or how to correct it, so most of them have very little impact. The students sound mostly the same when they're done.I hate that.What I'm working on now is a free online power course to teach teachers (Vietnamese and foreign) how to EFFECTIVELY teach Vietnamese learners of English for maximum impact.I was born for this.

@StevenDouglas Teachers have such a crucial role in the universe of a child. I think a lot of the newer generations of teachers don’t grasp that.They have the power to crush you, at a time in life when your identity is already so precious.They also have the power to help you unfurl your wings.I have had both kinds of teachers.I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being one of the latter.

@StevenDouglas My best friend preached today. One of her points was that life is messy but these situations the Lord uses to teach and direct us. So within any Message to you from the Lord, you can find a mess. I am praying that the Lord's message will be clear to you in this mess. I don't know what specifics the Lord has for any of our futures but I do know that He's come so we may have abundant Life, He will not give us more than we can bear, and He will never leave us or forsake us.
