I just did ps on an Ubuntu 20.04 system for the first time and apparently the max PID has been raised to 4 million and it looks super weird to me even just having 6-digit PIDs.

@clacke yeah I've started using the mouse some. I hate to say it but I need some way to pipe output into an interactive program that helps me do keyboard selection...shit though, if there is stdout being piped on, how do I create an interactive program?! oh no. I know I could interselect <(jobs) but I'd rather find some way to jobs|interselect.

@jauntywunderkind420 That's an interesting question, but did you intend it for another thread?

@clacke err I guess I meant for ps -a, not jobs. picking pids out of ps is harder now whereas before it was easy to type out.

@jauntywunderkind420 Oh, you mean the pid is longer to type and remember?interselect is a program you would like to write?A program can distinguish between stdin and the controlling tty, so it could receive ps output on stdin and still allow you to interactively select a line. That sounds like a neat tool to have.

@clonejo @jauntywunderkind420 "Why use this over fzf, pick, selecta, ctrlp, ...?"I had no idea this was a whole genre of software.#fzy looks really neat!
