But normal men don’t and are finding male exclusive spaces more and more scarce. @PonyPanda Just think of it in terms of safeguarding. Which, in essence, is simply a risk management system. We all live with them in one area or another - speed limits on roads, for example. It's not personal. One sex is an actuarial risk to the other sex. Safeguarding is sceptical by its very nature. Men are supposed to be good at numbers and probabilities! Perhaps that's the framing they need?

@LangCleg I've not really seen her on here, but if you could pass on my thanks to Tinsel for all her hard work. The transwidows threads on Mumsnet were eye opening, generally speaking but also personally as they shone a whole new light on a previous bad relationship and helped me put it into context and perspective. I'm sure she's aware of their role as current support threads, but I imagine I'm not the only person who found clarity after the fact thanks to those women sharing their stories.

Whenever I go there, I’m amazed at how serious the lesbian is in fighting for her gay male allies. But I don’t know if gay guys have done as much for lesbians.

Whatever arguments she makes in the rest of the book, this passage I guarantee does not advance them in any way. It's just a bit of border guard duty, patrolling the parameters and reporting back to central that you've kept the wildlings on the other side of the wall.Stock kindly tweeted about an article I wrote without knowing me, which was a big deal because she is famous and I am not. So I want to like her! But I have seen this sort of thing a lot in academia and it has genuinely negative effects. To be honest I've done this sort of thing (not in writing, but in teaching) as recently as 6 years ago. So I can't cast a lot of stones. But it's so so so so sososososososo corrosive. Profs I respected did it and I parroted it, and that's how the wall gets maintained. At a certain point you have to realize the pattern and stop perpetuating it.
