Covid is 5 times more deadly than influenza. if no one wears a mask, hospitals will be at maximum capacity and unable to treat people with severe forms. i agree that wearing a mask in the middle of the countryside is absurd, but thinking that influenza and covid are identical is a big mistake.

Interesting take, but I beg to differ. I'd rather wear a mask and try to explain to other mask wearers that corona virus isn't going to wipe out the world, than not wear a mask to signal to a relatively small number of people that masks might not be the solution to the current state.I wear a mask where it is "required", therefore I blend in. However, when I talk to people who are *on the verge* of being completely brainwashed by the mainstream media, they don't disregard what I'm going to say, precisely because I didn't come off as a "crazy antivaxxer" as the mainstream media says. I've already talked to many people and we discussed the current situation, and I explained with good arguments why I find the "WEAR THE MASK, TAKE THE VAX" speech biased propaganda and not as true as the media portrays it to be. After talking with said person, they heard another perspective and will share it when talking with other people.In my opinion this is a much more effective approach to countering misinformation than signaling your opinion by not wearing a mask. People see what they were told to see ("CrAzY CoNsPiRaCy ThEoRiSt"), they don't necessarily hear what you're really trying to say. Note: I don't live in the USA. Where I live, wearing the mask is only a recommendation. I haven't seen anyone getting fined (yet).

I had researched this phenomenon and found it's pretty legit self-protection measure. So I familiar with the idea.It was when weaponsandstuff93 did a livestream on youtube one February when my mask went on. He urged everyone to go against (again, then!) government advice not get a mask, and that the virus will prove to be transmitted airborne.

I've been doing most of my shopping in outdoor farmers market recently - coupled with the fact I don't commute any more, ironically I'm not often in situations where I find I want and need to wear a mask nowadays, a bit like Luke.But I still will otherwise. @luke While I'm not personally anti-mask (honestly if you're going on public transportation or something in general you should wear a mask). However even from my perspective I can totally see how politicans might be trying to control people. They've ultimately failed at their jobs and have no fucking clue what they're doing. I don't think it's impossible that they might've been intentionally doing a poor job in order to be able to abuse powers. We're at the point now where most people who would die or be hospitalised are vaccinated, so what's the point of these measures continuing?
