       @grumpy I use markdown for everything. Our work project uses Confluence with its cursed wysiwyg xhtml, is easier and more powerful but also nonfree and tends to get messed up

       @grumpy Depends on what manuals you are writing, but I would try asciidoc over markdown. It has tons of features, and supports writing a book as well as a readme. https://docs.asciidoctor.org/asciidoc/latest/asciidoc-vs-markdown/
