@qorg11 …I’m gonna be honest, I think people forgot a lot of websites at that very time were filled with GIFs and ad banners and popups and Flash

@qorg11 Those were simpler times... Sadly ad blockers and Tor :tor: are now a necessity. We can no longer enjoy the internet freely. Now there's Annoying cookies, annoying bloat of JavaScript, malicious servers posing as if they are the real website, and an overkill amount of ads. Oh I forgot a shit load of spyware and ISP spying as well! :ablobcateyesflip: :blobcatsadlife: #fuckisp #internetfreedom #privacy #tor

@xerz @qorg11 yeah, go to web archive and look over geocities pages and you'll definitely see a lot of garish stuff, even if the information density was still higher on average overall

@qorg11So disgusted with what it has become. Gemini is nice in that is super simple and clean, but there's no real way to traverse it

@PawelK @qorg11 @pasture @admin uBlock Origin works pretty well to contain this shit. You can block elements on a page, like the social media buttons that people like to have floating on the side as you scroll down. But yea, modern news sites are pretty terrible.

@yellowbeard@queenlainsrevenge.xyz @PawelK@noagendasocial.com @qorg11@society.kalli.st @pasture@pl.gamers.exposed Gab maintains a feed with a bunch of news sites and that's the only way I consume news. It's p. good, feels like reading a newspaper.

@yellowbeard@queenlainsrevenge.xyz @pasture@pl.gamers.exposed @qorg11@society.kalli.st @PawelK@noagendasocial.com No, that sucks, it's just Andrew's blog. They host a proper feed for news stories on trends.gab.com Sometimes you find some really interesting archaeological stuff on there.

@qorg11 @harding Drives me fucking mad. I have a browser without cookies and tons of websites are just white. I had hoped #DuckDuckGo would punish those sites more in their rankings.I recently searched for a simple recipe and IIRC the first 3 or 4 results wouldn't work without cookies. None ofc worked without JS. I think search engines should play a role here.
