My Pleroma server avoided whimsical naming controversies like Mastodons “Toot” button by saying “Post new status” and “Submit” Yes it’s bland but it’s just a word. People get precious over the most irrelevant details too often. The value is distributed, federated messaging. Not the button text. FFS

@chidgey reading some of the takes about this i get the impression that the real issue is that this seems to be an expression of eugen's intent to make masto even more like twitterwhen as we all know the ways in which masto is not like twitter are the ways in which masto is good

@carcinopithecus Well for me at least unless Mastodon becomes centralised, monetised and algorithmic (like Twitter), I’m staying and rest is window dressing. Eugen (on the whole) has done pretty well so I’m not too concerned.

@chidgey All conversation threads *are* tree structures, because you're always replying to something, which is a child "Node"... ergo I say "Node" is the best word.However like the word "Kleenex" became synonymous with any tissue, I think the world should just hijack the word "Tweet" for all platforms and I'm happy with that too.The word "Toot" however is stupid and silly and I may stop using it...
