@vxlriye It's not about whatever kids can get hrt immediately or after years of wait, it's about the fact that those kids are being prescribed unnecessary and dangerous drugs that will affect their bodies negatively in order to let them cope with their delusions instead of getting them the actual treatment they need.

@Chirppa and what would you say the treatment they need is? If you say it’s a therapist in nearly all countries to get prescribed hrt you need to visit a therapist or psychologist for a psychiatric assessment.

@vxlriye It is indeed therapy. The fact that you need to see one and get an assessment for a prescription means nothing if the purpose is just to confirm whatever the patient has dysphoria or not, instead of trying to help them alleviate it and feel comfortable in their own skin.

@Chirppa I ask you in return for this what happens when the therapist fails? Therapists are not infaliable and may not be able to provide the mental help that hrt can provide, so while yes therapy does provide a solution that wouldn’t lead to permanent bodily changes I would predict 99/100 that therapy will not be enough to help the person suffering. For an example it’s like a severely depressed person, you could just give them therapy and no anti-depressants to help combat their depression, but what happens when the depressed person commits suicide due to not being given anti-depressants in the vain hope just therapy would suffice.

@vxlriye The "mental help" that hrt provides is due to placebo effect, while the harm is indeed very real. I'm not saying that the treatment should rely solely on therapy, just that this is a mental illness that needs to be treated like any other delusion, not enforce it with permanent damage to the patients' bodies. Therapy can't quarantee 100% success rate to any of the problems that are being treated with it but it's still a better solution than giving people cross sex hormones to try to placate their distorted self image.

Just because sometimes people with mental illnesses can't find enough help to heal even with therapy doesn't mean it was a wrong course of action. I know what you will most likely say but that is from your point of view, from the pov of a transitioning person what you see as harms would be seen as ups (at least in my experience.) and even if the effects of hrt are placebo I ask what the problem with that is? Happiness from placebo is no different than happiness from other sources. And to the point that therapy is a better solution to hrt I want to point out where that exact same argument was used previously, back in the 60’s-70’s and even leading up to today that has been an argument used against gay people, saying that therapy would help cleanse them from what others would deem as “wrong” instead of letting them be who they are is quite literally (at least from my interpretation) exactly the same argument used against gay people.

@vxlriye This is not the same thing as with gay people. If it was about just letting them be "who they are" then outside hormones and surgery would be unnecessary (which, surprise, they are!). To be gay means you accept yourself as you are while to be trans means that you deny yourself the way were born.

@Chirppa the way that you are born does not equate to the way you end up, while I agree there are people who will use this as an excuse to get access to places they shouldn’t that doesn’t mean that you should devalue trans matters, I’ll pull up a metaphor, for BLM while their protests were peaceful for the most part and everyone who went out there in a support for black rights protested peaceful there were people who used BLM as an excuse to riot and loot, now just because a small subsection of the people at the BLM protests looted places that doesn’t mean that everyone at the protests was automatically a looter or that because some people at the protests looted stores that the cause the majority of the protesters stood for was for moot.

It's an industry that stifles what could help, such as alternative therapy, and political action focused on the real problem behind the pain, such as sexism and homophobia. Self mutilation and delusion are never a solution for anything.

@Chirppa I had to think about the answer to this for a while as it is quite an interesting question, I’ll say this, the difference comes in one being “right” and one being “wrong”, with another comparison I ask what about self-proclaimed “anime-sexuals” or “dream-sexuals”? I do not accept those as real sexualities and by the logic you’ve shown because I believe those are not sexualities I would believe being gay is not a sexuality either. The best way to phrase this is in the way of one being those who genuinely feel a certain way and those who make something up to ridicule the former. Rachel for example has said this in a bid to harm the trans communities reputation (at least from what I interpret) and the same could be said for people like “anime-sexuals” who only made being anime-sexual up in a bid to hurt the gay community. While I may not have expressed my viewpoint exceptionally well I have faith that you can fill in the blanks that I’m bound to have left.
