Gay men are asked to not donate if they have recently had sex with another man, but trans, who have nearly the same HIV risk, and often work as prostitutes, are not expected to disclose this information, nor must they wait to make sure they have not been exposed. It can take weeks before a new infection shows up in a test. The medical community has decided that the donor's FEELINGS are more important than public safety.

@Jennifer_Lee @RadicalHedgehog85 Nobody was thinking about my feelings when they told me at 24 that I could never give blood again because I’d had a melanoma. I felt like they were saying I was permanently tainted with cancer. Upset as I was, they weren’t wrong. It should be entirely risk based.

@senryu @RadicalHedgehog85 Easy. Men who think they can change their sex by simply injecting some estrogen are severely mentally ill. The mentally ill, you know the kind who up until whenever were simply put in special institution for their own protection and that of society, often portrayed promiscuous behavior without thinking about the consequences. Plus we are talking about men here. Men in general have a really hard taking responsibility for their own actions. So you have men, who are severely mentally ill, who most likely are drug addicts on top of that. All boundaries gone. Also wouldn't be surprised if they did not believe in the existence of HIV or think it's easily treatable and no biggie. Not hard to end up with HIV like that.

She’s just pointed out to me that taking certain medicines means you can’t give blood so how is it pumping artificial hormones into yourself is a ok? @Gnomeshatecheese I’ve heard people say it out loud. They genuinely think hiv can be managed easily. Of course the media has been at fault with that. Having people on talkshows, doctors and patients, talking about that as long as you follow a few simple protocols, live with hiv ain’t a biggie 🤦‍♀️ They say all that to make people less afraid of people with HIV, but it has resulted in people thinking they don’t have to have protected sex, cause hiv is no biggie. @Gnomeshatecheese they are going up here in the Netherlands as well. They did a survey a few years back amongst university students. The amount who had unprotected sex was staggering, men and women both. Oh you just gets some meds for an std. (yeah if you catch it in time, hopefully there won’t be longlasting complications especially for women). And the best one, I can’t catch hiv cause I’m smart.
