THREAD: This is not going to be a popular take on the decision not to file charges on the officer who shot Ashli Babbit. She repeatedly continued to try to climb through a broken window into the room where the Vice President and the members of Congress were present. She clearly had a backpack strapped to her back that had not been searched. The audio and video of the shooting makes it clear she was warned multiple times to stop advancing.

She ignored these orders, even though it seems clear she had to have seen the officer pointing the gun at her. She appears to have believed the officer and other security personnel with drawn handguns pointing to where the group was breaking it's way into the chamber were only bluffing, and would not shoot. That was a fatal mistake.They WILL shoot.They are TRAINED to shoot in that situation.

Security personnel at the Capitol are not trained to ONLY fire on people breaking into the chamber if they look like Muslim terrorists. They are trained to shoot ANYBODY who tries to force their way in and rush over to the President, VP, Senators or whoever.If you are breaking windows and breaking down doors so you can rush the members Congress and the Vice President, I want you to understand something. There should not be any confusion about this. YOU WILL BE SHOT.

While the Capitol police outside the building were told to stand down, NOBODY told the VP's or the Senators or the House Rep's security officers to STAND DOWN and let people swarm into the chamber and rush over and try to grab Pence or members of Congress.The fact I have to explain that if you tried to break into a room containing the President, the VP, or Senators or other top gov't officials while sporting a backpack, you'd get yourself SHOT is painful, but it has to be done.

Ashli Babbit was goaded by people who I do not think were real Trump supporters into doing something extremely dangerous and she ended up losing her life.More evidence is emerging about the groups that took advantage of Trump's rally and used it to stage a planned attack on the Capitol Bld.Innocent and sincere Trump people got sucked into the chaos.And we need to be ready in case radical extremists try this again./end

@drawandstrike Good thread.The only mistake I find in it is the statement that it's not a popular opinion.@Debradelai called it since day 1. I think @ThomasWic followed suit rather quickly, and I've seen many others already write the same.Ashli Babbitt's death was tragic. She wasn't evil. And her death was unnecessary and stupid.But she was responsible for it, by making several extremely stupid and dangerous moves.We can be sympathetic to her family, but still state this truth.

@drawandstrike I think anyone in the capitol should have known that being there was a risk. Ashli suffered the consequences.Daunte Wright in MN committed suicide by stupidity. He too could have followed police orders. He could have not tried to escape. There were a lot of off ramps nobody took. Every cop in MN should be figuring out an alternative career.

@drawandstrike I donāt know if you are aware of some aussie comedians who dressed up as bin laden with an obviously fake beard and rented a limo to go to the hotel where (?) bush was having a conference. They stuck a flag from a country NOT ATTENDING and just kept getting waved through the security. Eventually they chickened out as they could see the snipers etc on next door buildings so the confessed at the next checkpoint.Funniest thing they ever did and cameras of the world on them.
