@footjamfan Ok, the end of the post contains a link "Thank you to Rob McQueen for feedback on a draft of this post.". If you follow it, it is a blog of Endless OS developer. Endless OS is a proprietary OS based on Linux: https://linuxreviews.org/Endless_OSCheap attempt to attack free software indeed.

@footjamfan > I don’t think the [AGPL] license has caused any source code to become available that wouldn’t have been open source anyway. It has made available all the code that would otherwise be in closed-source forks running modified copies of AGPL code. The link to MongoDB is simply wrong: it talks about MongoDB moving from AGPL to non-free license that forbids providing cloud services with MongoDB.

@footjamfan List of GPL-incompatible licenses mostly contains broken licenses like MPLv1 or Apache v1 that are already fixed by newer versions: http://gplv3.fsf.org/wiki/index.php/Compatible_licensesThe only problem is OpenSSL that will be resolved with OpenSSL 3.0.

@footjamfan Same for Elastic. He says "this is fine". Elastic search switched to SSPL which is *not fine*, it's a non-free license. And the switch to SSPL resulted in Amazon forking its Apache version under the name OpenSearch: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/opensource/introducing-opensearch/Amazon was totally fine with AGPL version of MongoDB, it's a non-free SSPL license that made them fork the software.

@wire huh, surprising to see such a misleading article come from Kleppman, who otherwise I thought was a respectable academic, really expected better.

@footjamfan The text is incoherent and seems to want to fit a square in a round hole - I guess you can technically fit a small square in a large hole, but this square has a diagonal larger than the diameter of the hole, so it does not fit. Anyhow if one is interested in the topic he is trying to advocate, I must ironically enough point to an excellent article by Richard Stallman.https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.en.html
