'The FSF states that RMS "has sincere regrets, especially at how anger toward him personally has negatively impacted the reputation and mission of FSF." Regretting that people are angry at him and that's harmed the FSF is not a sincere apology. It's an "I'm sorry you're angry at me," non-apology apology.'https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-fsf-doubles-down-on-restoring-rms-after-his-non-apology-apology/

@be Why don't you read what he actually wrote, and complain about that if you still want to.https://www.fsf.org/news/rms-addresses-the-free-software-communityThe whole drama is driven by people responding with outrage to strawmen, it's good for everyone if you make sure you are responding to the source material directly.

@hopeless @be my main issue with his response, is the complete disregard for some of the more serious accusations. Like the fact that he had a mattress with laughing people in his office.

@be The entire argument against Stallman is that autistic people can't be on boards of non-profits.

@trhr @be I don't think that's the right approach. RMS shouldn't be allowed to do bad things because he's autistic. (Which isn't even true, AFAIK.)There is a mixture of excuses people deploy to attack RMS. First is misrepresentation of the Epstein comment, but a misrepresentation is a misrepresentation. Another is a variety of vague accusations, but those don't actually hold any weight. The last part is RMS's personal writing. (This last part is the most annoying since a similar thing happened to Brendan Eich. I don't recall how much of a landslide Mozilla was in before Eich left, but it's certainly shit now.)Overall, the reason to dismiss RMS is just collective disgust. No individual point holds up to scrutiny.

@petit @be Collective disgust can be a powerful motivator. I took one of my autistic colleagues to a Burning Man regional one year. Literally all he did was sit around the fire and talk to people.Somehow, the whisper network turned "that guy's creepy" into "that guy's a rapist." I asked him about it. He said he was never even in anybody's tent (and I could tell he wasn't lying). The SJWs are so concerned with aberrant social behavior they miss the fact that not everyone is the devil.

@trhr @be "In a society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behavior is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by ‘thou shalt not’, the individual can practice a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by ‘love’ or ‘reason’, he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else." -Orwell
