@c3manu Is this article some kind of Taboo* where he is describing #xmpp without mentioning it? 🤔 * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taboo_(game)

@aslmx I think he’d argue similar points as he does against Matrix at the bottom. Also: isn’t E2E encryption only optional in XMPP? And does group chat encryption actually work?

@c3manu yes e2ee is optional, but modern clients activate it per default. I don't claim xmpp is perfect (in the true meaning of perfection = nothing to improve), but imho it is one of the better options we have.OMEMO in group chat works - people that claim to have problems usually use old clients or the group chat gets too big.IMHO: MUC size might be an issue/limitation, but there's no point in e2ee of a MUC with hundreds of people; do you know and trust every single person anyway then?

@aslmx @c3manu IIRC he doesn't like XMPP because it uses XML and he hates XML.

@jcbrand Right... and XML influences the UX and interoperabilitiy exactly how? From a software developer pov he might dislike xml or not, but does the user even know or care? I don't want to know what crap "the other big companies" are using - we will never know for sure unless they open source their stuff...@c3manu

@aslmx @c3manu I respect him for his technical abilities, but IMO his personality is way too trollish and obnoxious for me to actually care about his opinion on things.XMPP is just one of a long list. The irony of him calling typing notifications "toxic" when I consider his rants toxic for the most part.

@aslmx @c3manu Lots of companies use XMPP BTW.Grindr, Zoom, Whatsapp (at least originally), Nintendo... lots of games. If you have a cellphone number in EU, there's likely a private telecoms-only XMPP account attached to it.

@jcbrand Can you please take your toxicity discussion elsewhere? I heard Twitter is a good place for that. Thanks. @aslmx

@jr It's used on the backend, not exposed to users.
