@mona online shooters are where cheats are generally most impactful (another point where you dont know what youre talking about), whats your solution to the cheating problem then? whats going to stop cheaters from running cheats at kernel level above a software level anticheat? theres some things that need to happen for a game to be playable and fun for the userbase while we're at a point where cheating in games is as worse as it ever has been.but if you dont have any solutions i guess you can shut your brain off and just say thing bad because uhhhhhhh

@Sterence @mona it's extremely intrusive and creepy to require data collection/analysis just to play a game, I will not play one that has it. I've passed up enough games for this reason alone that I think I won't ever knowingly use a game with this type of anticheat. My problem with CSGO wasn't the cheaters, it was the community (proof to me that kernel level anticheat isn't necessary).. My 2c

@coyote @mona I mean I've played enough cs mm to know that cheaters are just super common/obvious alongside knowing people that cheated and they went unbanned for 6+ months. I can understand not being okay with it but I feel like games should offer both levels of anticheat in an ideal world but development on both is never justified and valves attempts to make vac work didn't work, vacnet had basically no impact and has gone unmentioned since and their attempt to detect and block things hooking into cs was bypassed day 1. Riot probably looked at vac and decided having that as an option wouldn't even nearly be worth the development time because it's much more time consuming and incredibly less effective. AC devs always just have a job that's always working from behind and it's something that increases effectiveness massively to get kernel access

@tn5421 @coyote @mona normalizing would imply that theres an effective alternative thats been brushed aside in favour of harvesting data or something. this has been a thing since the early 2000s because people who work on anticheat know the best ways to bypass anticheat. again, whats the solution?

@Sterence @tn5421 @mona the fact this ever became a thing is terrifying and confusing and stupid, I played like 4k hours of CS:GO and only encountered like 10 hackers, I stopped when Free To Play killed it, of course that's what killed it. Honestly at single ak and gold 4 where I was at there weren't many cheaters, but I stopped playing a few years ago, if things got worse I wouldn't be surprised. The solution unironically is probably an AI looking for hallmarks of cheating ("snapping" to heads, headshots thru walls, always knowing where the other team is and responding too accurately) and then flag it for review by a human who can then identify whether it was legitimately cheating. Make it not worth it for the cheaters because they get banned too quick to keep playing. Honestly, I'd imagine valve would benefit from actually using the cheats to see how they work and simply design around that

@coyote @mona @tn5421 I mean it was better when prime required you to play a lot to unlock it but after they replaced buying the game with buying prime it went to shit. They have ai stuff going on (supposedly) with vacnet but it really doesn't work, needs a lot more work but 64 tick probably doesn't help and replay tickrates are even lower in replays but I'm not sure what vacnet is supposed to work off.Ai solutions could work out eventually I assume but I think at the moment they haven't figured it out yet, also would be harder for AC that covers multiple games but maybe one day they'll get past these problems
