So apparently one of my sister's friends (age 32, lawyer, married to a well to do lawyer bro, mother of two kids) recently came out as a "demisexual nonbinary she/they femme" and revealed she once partook in the demisexual float at the local pride parade fearing that she would face discrimination for it at work if anyone found out...... I really think some people just need to go outside.

@Hollahollara @GalacticTurtle pride in Ferndale, Michigan might be one of the exceptions because a lot of gay people live there and they don't do a parade because Detroit has one. They just have a local celebration and its pretty good. When the gay people outnumber the straight people (and the gender specials) and there aren't a lot of corporate sponsors, its genuinely uplifting and I wish every pride was like that.

@GalacticTurtle The she/they thing reminds me of the period in the mid-late 90s when all the straight women who wanted queer cred called their husbands “partners” behind their backs (rarely when together) and claimed to be bisexual. Coming out as a woman who to like someone before you fuck them? Wow. We are all on our own journeys, but come the fuck on.

@GalacticTurtle How is that even a thing you can come out as?Demi-sexual = doesn't have sex with strangers.nonbinary = not 100% gender conforming.This describes pretty much every woman I know, straight, lesbian or bi.Your sister's friend doesn't need a parade, she just needs to get over herself.

@lezpaulguitars @Hollahollara @GalacticTurtle Sounds great. Portland, which I stopped attending 3 years ago, is mostly straights. I'd say there is a smattering of gay men and lots of trains, but not many lesbians. I never found Pride interesting once it became mostly churches, corporations, and politicians.

@GalacticTurtle I have just read now Demisexual means a individual experiences sexual attraction after having an "emotional bond". This should not be labelled a sexuality because this is normal human behaviour which humans experience regardless of sexuality. It is normal and very healthy to be sexuality attracted to people an individual has an emotional bond with. Demisexuality to me is just means being a human being.I think your sisters friend is just bored of her life . I have noticed some people who are have stable lives like being married with children or people who are privileged end up doing the crazy things with ther life instead of something productive with thier lives. Last week I watched a documentary about British people who keep wild animals as pets. The documentary shows how people in the UK are allowed to do this under our laws. In the documentary the presenter visited the home of this man.This man is a millionare and he keeping collecting wild animals ie baby cubs and plans to collect more. The man he even kisses the animals. I said to my grandmother " He is a very handsome man and wealthy. He needs to stop the animal collecting and find himself a wife and have children. @Hollahollara @GalacticTurtle Corporations eventually realized that gay people have money to spend, and they wanted some of that money. Just as they realized that Black people have money to spend, and Hispanic people have money to spend. So they should have programs about Black and Hispanic people.
