Launching a new music streaming service but the interface is just an like an ipod shuffle.Play, pause, next, and previous controls. And no, you can't know what song you're listening to, or God forbid, what comes next.

@asbjorn no, it was just a weird thought. How did anyone ever find an ipod shuffle useful? It's unimaginable for me to play music that way today. But then again, I suppose it's literally the logic behind tiktok? Maybe it would be a great success.

@rune I think it might be fun in the way chatroulette is fun.Once I tried to do a web radio type thing with Icecast where it had a bunch of channels playing from different folders on an ftp server., that my friends had access to.What if just anyone could upload music to a single huge list that it would shuffle play from? What could go wrong 🤔

@asbjorn It would probably be fairly easy to build but it would go wrong so fast if it hosted anything but freely available music.

@asbjorn it's too late now but I might try to make a small proof of concept tomorrow. I'm sure I can find some public domain music for it.

@asbjorn I spent maybe 15 minutes and I have a working proof of concept.Working with audio is ridiculously easy in html + javascript O.oI just need to add some styling and some backend code that can dynamically discover all the songs and provide a random one on AJAX request.

@rune @asbjorn if you make it a FunkWhale client that would be a pretty cool way to let people play their own music. I have a closed personal funkwhale instance with part of my music collection on.

@zatnosk @asbjorn uh, that's a decent idea. In principle the browser just needs to be able to reach it.I guess any backend that can provide a list of media links could be used.

@zatnosk @asbjorn Didn't get around to allowing random backends, but here is a locked down version with 48 public domain songshttps://shuffle.magnox.me/

@rune @zatnosk Nice! I like how very literally you copied the shuffle's look.
