       don’t let anyone pressure you into believing emacs or vim is good “once you get past the intimidating learning curve”, it’s absolute nonsense. there’s at least 10 or 20 more deal breakers past that. “getting past the learning curve” only constitutes inflicting on yourself the brain damage you need to fail to see their obvious faults.

       i am reminded of a promotional film for a “new” (at the time) model of linotype machine. it promoted a safety feature which would prevent you from setting the machine in a way that would result in molten lead being sprayed into your face. i feel like if its primary audience were unix fans they would complain about this feature being too restrictive, and mock people using it as babies who can’t handle the occasional face full of molten lead.
