Fuck, I'm tired of splitting toots, writing "1/2", "2/2" and other "niceties" of the 500 character limit. As soon as I finish moving to another country, I need to start my own (single-user) instance. I also need to think about what kind of instance... #Mastodon #Pleroma #Friendica #Hubzilla #Fediverse

@TheFuzzStone Friendica. Its privacy controls are the best out of all those you listed (beating out Hubzilla, I think).

@wizzwizz4, I have a test account on some instance, and I "liked" my post in Mastodon to see if the notifications work, but I didn't get a notification... weird.

Friendica doesn't produce notifications for 'likes'. You only get an info bubble with a count of the 'likes' on the house/home icon.

@alfred @wizzwizz4, I'm not a likes-fan, I was just stating a fact. But still, it is better to have such an option (likes notifications), as well as being able to turn it off. IMO.

@wizzwizz4, What I didn't like about Friendica right away was that I couldn't see my posts from Mastodon. It's also weird that I changed my Friendica profile description a long time ago, but Mastodon keeps seeing the old description...Going to bed. I'll answer you tomorrow.

@wizzwizz4, I also don't see mine posts when I look at my Friendica profile from Pleroma. (followed myself up and all approved)I don't see posts, I only see replies. That's it, now I'm definitely going to bed.

@wizzwizz4 I didn't go to bed (but I'm on my way).I created a test account on another Friendica instance to finally test something, and:When I look at my profile from Pleroma to Friendica (and vice versa) I don't see my posts until I open a direct link, and I don't like that. So 98% of the time I'm going to run Pleroma myself.I've been playing with Pleroma for the last couple of days, and I liked it.

I found a normal #Friendica instance. Normal in the sense that it's not hosted on a calculator, works quickly and doesn't censor other instances: https://venera.social/But I can't see my posts when I look from my Friendica account to my #Pleroma account and vice versa. That means that everything is still not normal between this software. This is by design and actually one of the few features that made me choose it over Diaspora at the time. For me like notifications are unwelcome distractions. I can't act on them, just take note of it, and in the end it's a frivolous waste of time. However if you're curious you can actively see who liked your posts by going to your profile so no information is lost.

@TheFuzzStone Do you mean you don't get any new posts *after* you've followed yourself from Friendica <-> Pleroma? If you haven't followed yet, you may never see anything. The same thing happens in Mastodon, if you follow a user your server has not known about before - it will show you 0 posts on Mastodon profile and only after you follow, it will pull all new posts in.

If you just started following your Pleroma account, Friendica doesn't automatically import all the previous posts, but you'll get the new ones in your timeline. I can't speak about the other way around though.

@lightone, I was confused by Friendica's UI. There you have to put the cursor on the account, and in a pop-up window select "Network posts" and then some of the posts are visible, and the rest are not visible, probably because of this:>>>If you haven't followed yet, you may never see anything. The same thing happens in Mastodon, if you follow a user your server has not known about before - it will show you 0 posts on Mastodon profile and only after you follow, it will pull all new posts in.

@TheFuzzStone When you often hit the 500 char limit, don't you need a blog, instead of a microblog?#Justasking

@ruud, a blog, yes, but separately. My understanding of a blog is - clearly constructed articles/guides or even essays. But, most of the time I want to share some link with Fediverse and add some comment from myself. That comment can be 360 characters, or it can be 5000 characters. The number of characters doesn't matter here, it's still a comment, not a full-fledged blog post. You see, even to write you this reply - I do not need to limit myself to 500 characters (I didn't even count how many characters there are) or divide the text in Kate (text editor) to then create tracks, etc.I'm not saying that Mastodon is bad for everyone, it's bad for me.
