Its meaning in German is "to make something worse in a failed attempt to improve it"

@laggard no single word I can think of, but variations on "if it ain't broke, try and fix it 'til it is" are somewhat common jokes.

@laggard oh wrong account oops... But it sorta does, it usually implies there was an attempted to improve

@zaun Implicitly, maybe, but you could totally say "He totally meant to make shit worse"

@laggard not a word but the idiom “1 step forward, 2 steps backward” sort of covers it.

@laggard I use "farpotshket", which is the Yiddish work for:"Broken, because you 'fixed' it".As far as I know English doesn't have its own word for that, although the concept is common enough that when I say "farpotshket" people are delighted.

@laggard An old Bavarian person here has rejected that word ad improper lol. Disimprove is not great. In the spirit of making up conjunctions i suggest mishelp.

@generika I mean, wiktionary lists it as "somewhat informal" so he might not be wrong :bloblul:

@laggard we have the idiom "digging a deeper hole" but it (mostly) applies to amending mistakes that got you into trouble socially

@georgia @laggard similarly- "treading it around" as in "When you step in the shit, don't tread it around" as my dear pa is fond of saying :blobblush:

@laggard it's a very controversial community-created grammar particle, to give context to a statement but put in a different place relative to it this time :> unsurprisingly, it's one of my favorite words
