ThreadHow NOT to be a hermit.First off, I love the movie 28 Days Later. That said, it's FAR too violent. There's no reason to show what they show in the film. Now, here's a review from an Irish hermit that's chock full of spoilers. If you have no plans to see the movie, feel free to watch it.So what is the Irish hermit doing wrong?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DHcfpm-eIQ

The review is from 2016, BUT.The guy hasn't learned anything yet.We are DEEP INTO the sort of global disaster that he says will make us all into savages.Where's the savagery? The US is handling everything fine, even though we hate the pandemic and what our government is doing. And we all have guns!SOCIETY WILL NOT BREAK DOWN.I'm totally confident saying that, because I KNOW my fellow humans.

The vast, overwhelming majority of you are levelheaded and mature. That's why I never use movies as cautionary tales. They're fictional, from the minds of misanthropes.I'm not a misanthrope. I became a hermit because I can't function out there with y'all. The Irish hermit will NOT accept his circumstances. He studies horror fiction to learn how to cope with his own mental issues.BAD choice. Now, technically I'm not the right guy to comment on any of this.

I've EXPERIENCED what to most people is fiction.Throughout my life, I've endured nightmare cycles. I'm bad in one now.The nightmares are always about either murder or being hopelessly lost, with no ability to get home or find safety. When I wake up, I have a hangover of depression that I have to physically work off. I'm moving crap like a stevedore right now.Exploring horror is vacuous. Let me explain the ostensible theory behind it:

You can't appreciate good unless you know what bad is.There.Total bullshit. For one thing, you aren't going to learn anything from a movie. Those are ACTORS. They're PRETENDING.Some people--the Marquis de Sade is considered the exemplar--feel that they have to experience "bad" in order to appreciate good. One problem:You're CHOOSING to experience it. Therefore you're in control, and it's all fake.Try going through it against your will. Try BEING CHOSEN instead of choosing.

When you're CHOSEN, it destroys you.All you learn is that you're ruined.BUT.You can still live a fulfilling life. It takes finding out what you get out of denial and continuing the cycle.Talk about horror.Imagine how much of a scumbag you'll feel like by learning that you're choosing to embrace ugliness when you don't have to.It tosses everything out of the window. You learn that you're simply FUBAR.F*cked Up Beyond All Recognition. That's why nobody wants to go there.

But you HAVE TO go there in order to stop the accelerating ruination.Too many people use their disabilities to get attention from strangers. They're invested in NOT improving. That's why I reject the notion that to really appreciate good, you have to know bad.It isn't true, and besides, what you're doing when you say that is trying to bring others down. You're crapping on them.I watch movies for lots of reasons, but NEVER to learn. Why can I learn from filmmakers?Don't answer that.

I'm finding that the more I work on moving into my new house, the more I resent my brother.Luckily I have over a month to figure out where I'm going to go while he's here. I really don't want to see him ever again. It's eerie how he's become a total clone of our father, a man who my brother professes to hate.I'm still figuring out what to put into my memoir. I still haven't figured out exactly what I want to say. This is the tenth major rewrite.

I keep uncovering new information about my parents that makes me reevaluate them. There's no deep emotion involved. I just find the story fascinating. I say that deciding what's good is entirely up to the individual. I don't mean regarding morality; I mean a good life in the most universal sense.NOBODY should know what I know.We have no need to be aware of depravity, especially since we can't do anything about most of it.Live your life as YOU see fit. You're the boss.END

@ThomasWic I have always wondered why people never use DeSade as a philosopher. I think he used his universal suffering as a poignant repost to his philosophy. The French Revolution changed Europe and he was a man of his times.

@ThomasWic It is up to us to decide how to live.My parents were still learning how to live even as they raised their own children. How can it be otherwise with all parents. When I realized that, it was the first step to being enough at peace with my own imperfect life to allow myself to keep learning how to best live it.

@ThomasWic thanks Thomas. I can relate. I did a lot of work when I got clean and sober. I didn’t have the extensive traumas that you talk about. However the ones I experienced were traumatic enough. Moving drugs, and guns with the gang bangers isn’t something this pretty little white girl dreamed of doing but that’s what I became. Today I use my experience to help others. And therein lies the gift.

@ThomasWic Lost and unable to find my way back is my most recurring nightmare, sans the danger. They are sometimes dystopian hell-scapes but most often they're in exotic, luxurious settings that I don't recognize or fit into at all.I'm always a stranger in someone else's world, treated well by people who are self-absorbed in the moment. It's not mine, I never feel at home, and I want out.The nightmare for me is only that I'm lost and can't remember who I am or where I'm from.

@ThomasWic Your memoir is necessarily evolving. I’m happy that you’ve realized that your brother is toxic. You sort of knew it but were still going to move to Vegas. I’m so relieved you didn’t move. It would have been a nightmare of proportions probably never seen by you before. Or maybe not. I’m very happy you’re settling into your parents home fairly well. I only hope your turmoil around this resolves soon.

@ThomasWic Oneiromancy is a pretty big thing Korea, though I don’t believe it cuz I’m not a fan of divination or occultism in general. However, what’s really interesting about traditional Korean oneiromantic theories is that they say dreams involving murders are usually “good omens.” Except the dreams that involve your own family members. If you are murdered by, or murder your own family member in your dreams then it’s said to be a really terrible omen.

BUT... what doesn't make you bitter makes you better, and the fact that you share it with others to help them heal is perfect. @ThomasWic "SOCIETY WILL NOT BREAK DOWN."That's the beautiful part. For many it will. THEIR societies. It's happening now - to those dependent on dependencies that are rapidly crumbling. For MOST - and society on the whole - I see the opposite happening. People reaching out to one another, restoring fabric that can't be utterly destroyed.

@StevenDouglas That's exactly the sort of nightmare I have. And I always know I'm doomed. No matter what I do, I'll never get out.The dreams almost always take place in cities at night, in the rain, but sometimes they're in massive structures, such as underground public bathrooms that stretch for miles in all directions. They're always dark. Also, I have dreams in which I'm doing things I don't want to do, in order to please unseen audiences. Those dreams are not allegorical.

@StevenDouglas Woke society and leftist society are breaking down because they're artificial constructs. One of the things the de Sade-type philosophers say is that morality is actually so new that it's an abnormal state. The natural state of humans is selfish and savage.I don't buy that. Our job here on this plane of existence is to grow and learn.TO IMPROVE.As you can see, the more we improve, the more and the faster we improve. @ThomasWic @StevenDouglas 100 years ago my grandfather left a miserable existence in Scotland with his new wife to settle in NYC. She was mortally wounded not long after in a famous train accident. He was so poor that the mortician paid for the funeral in Brooklyn and he was interviewed by a newspaper about his troubles. His wife was pregnant with their child. He sent insurance settlement money to her family. Later, he met my grandmother, got married again & had 5 kids. All he did was improve.

@ThomasWic @StevenDouglas I think one of the biggest reasons people in the US have been flooding into martial arts over the last decade or two is because they are all looking for something real, concrete, something that they can use to tether themselves to the broader reality and not let themselves get caught up in the madness. After all, the most basic thing martial arts teaches you is to control yourself. Once you can do that, much more becomes possible.

@ThomasWic @StevenDouglas Massive underground bathrooms?Lol, I get those dreams from time to time, and they are *always* filled with showers and tubs full of shit. It's as gross as you can imagine, though oddly enough just makes me curious instead of scared. My recurring dreams are all about exploring huge indoor complexes, such as shopping malls, department stores, and museums. They can get to be surprisingly beautiful.https://youtu.be/UK-MrUb3eZw

@StevenDouglas @ThomasWic I have a recurring nightmare where I can fly from rooftop to rooftop.. but if I don't push off hard enough I get stuck in between and the world moves on below me and without me :(Another, I'm staring at my aged but strong hands stirring a thick (wet concrete type) liquid in a huge cauldron with a spoon that has a super thin, brittle handle... My job is to get the goop spinning without breaking the spoon - too soft it won't spin, too hard - snap.

@ThomasWic @StevenDouglas https://thejongleur.com/articles/in-the-land-of-the-naked-kingsIt must b observed that people who accept pseudo-realities as though they are “real” r no longer normal people. They perceive pseudo-reality in place of reality, and the more thoroughly they take on this delusional position, the more functional psychopathy they necessarily exhibit and thus the less normal they become. Importantly, normal people consistently and consequentially fail to realize this about their reprogrammed neighbors@macsiccar

@decker1017 @ThomasWicI used to love lucid dreams and had many of them. In the beginning trying in vain to fly, levitate things or control the surroundings. Eventually I mastered it. But then I didn't care any more - because what was the point? Now I would just prefer that a dream play itself out without my awareness that I'm in one. I'm amazed most times that novel, complex two-way dialogue is flowing - conversations I could never consciously have with my awakened self.

@moe3030 @ThomasWic Can't find my way "out" if I'm inside, "back" (to wherever) if I'm outside.Sometimes "back" is to a place I was just at moments before, but can't return to. It's gone, no bread crumbs to follow. Either way it's a labyrinth. Inside example: Massive indoor "luxury club". Waterfalls, fountains, tables, grand piano, hive-like balconies everywhere. Everyone wants me to sit down and enjoy. Cannot.Any "exit" door I take leads to an exotic maze that never ends up outside.

@MrHobbit @ThomasWic One my VERY WORST nightmares happened in an old building with a massive ceramic tiled bathroom. In a hallway I passed a couple of men with dead shark eyes who wouldn't look at me. Down the hall and into the bathroom.I rounded a corner into a long row of overflowing urinals and saw the nude dead body of my eldest daughter.Woke up wailing, couldn't calm myself. COULD NOT calm down until I heard my daughter's voice on the phone. She had to talk me down from that one.

@ThomasWic I take the writings of de Sade-type philosophers (and writers like the sadistic William Golding, Lord of the Flies) as deep confessions projected boldly and safely onto everyone else."You're all secretly as evil as me, don't try to tell me otherwise. Here, I'll prove it to you with a plausible narrative." The problem with ALL their narratives:Real saviors and innocent victims. They're not accounted for, except to suggest that they WOULD be just as evil were the tables turned.

@StevenDouglas @decker1017 @ThomasWic ever read Robert Monroe's books about OBE's? He did it regularly for years. it culminated with going out of body to find and help lost souls accept they were dead and convince them to continue their journey, because they can get stuck in the pain they were in when they died until convinced of being dead and to go on.he proposed we go OOB and find these lost souls and help them to the light, for ourselves as well as them; for humanity. i'd try to do it.

@ThomasWic Thank you for being so honest & sharing w/us. I have horrible nightmares that I have to try to remember every detail of in the morning so I can identify & slay them. If I don't, I go about my day feeling something is wrong but don't know what it is. The only thing I look forward to at the end of life is blessed permanent sleep, minus the dreams. That's good enough for me. We each follow our own path to sanity.

@ThomasWic @wtawtaw_gal This genre of movie always scared the hell out of me, starting with The Omega Man with Charlotte Heston in 1971. Others include, World War Z, I am Legend, and 28 Days Later. Thomas is correct, don’t go to the movies to learn anything, go to get scared and then laugh at yourself for getting scared LOL. For some reason, the scene of Heston alone in a theater watching “Woodstock” freaked me out even back then.

@Nemhu @ThomasWic @RavenTracks Very true. I went through a terrible divorce 25 years ago. I really had no choice. Made a half hearted attempt at suicide at one point. Then renewed my relationship with God and started working out 3 or 4 hours a day. It was still painful to have my ex remarry and move 700 miles away with my 2 sons, buy I was at peace. Was a terrible time in my life.

@StevenDouglas @ThomasWic I had a recurring nightmare of being lost like that in a huge airport/warehouse mix with endless, haunting corridors.Over the years, in subsequent dreams, I returned to the same building, but with each new dream I became more and more familiar with the layout until I eventually came to know my way around and delighted in being able to find my desired destination. At that point it was no longer a nightmare! This process happened over the course of a decade or so.

@ThomasWic @StevenDouglas I agree. The primal evil nature of humanity is utter bullshit. Whomever comes with that premise is a narcissist and is incapable of observing real humans in challenging circumstances. In other words, they are deficient in intelligence and otherwise a failed unit in terms of being a representative of the real human template.I currently have no idea if some of them can even be considered human, but that's another story.
