@vriska robocopmany reasons but it was the first thing i saw that made me realize created works held value beyond what appears on the screen; there is deliberate meaning to what is shown (aka art).it also doubles as a good action movie and a satire on action movies without being snarky or demeaning towards them. it feels like it was specifically made to elevate me and it has always been my goal to elevate someone else in the same way.

@vriska@lizards.live hmmm. This is a hard one. I'm gonna have to give two movies for this. Gladiator is the first one. I think why it appeals to me so much is because Its an amazing well made and shot movie with a great story but it still feels like a "guys night out" type of movie. The second is Gran Torino. While the acting isn't always the greatest, at its core it's a touching story, and it feels like it hits the nail on the head in some aspects.

@vriska I always feel like a pretentious asshole but my favorite film is Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. I love it to death because it's true meaning and themes are completely up to the viewer's interpretation and no amount of digging will be more valid than what you truly feel in your heart. It has such powerful/painful scenes that pierce right through your soul and into the source of your unfiltered consciousness. All of this coupled together with the USSR's bleak outlook serve as an incredibly effective film as well as an interesting look into the art of a society that feels almost inconceivable to our modern American brains. It's fucking great.

@vriska It's an art-hoe swedish romance film from the late 90s. It's about a middle school lesbian who is a giant nerd and hopelessly in love with her cool popular classmate.It's very sweet and cheesy, and gets away with the simple story because it's about middle schoolers. I saw it on Netflix once and it took me like a month to find a torrent when it disappeared, but apparently it was very popular in Sweden.

@vriska its hard to pick a favorite but funeral parade of roses comes to mind70s japanese new wave retelling of oedipus rex with trans women"nowhere" and "i-be area" also up there as deranged/psychedelic gay art that seems stuck in fast-forward. nowhere feels like it sets up i-be area for what always felt to me like very "natively" gay forms of storytelling if that makes any sense
