This is a thought-provoking article on free software. The main argument is that users have actually a lot of different needs then what free software licenses demand. #foss #fsfhttps://r0ml.medium.com/free-software-an-idea-whose-time-has-passed-6570c1d8218a 1/2

There is also an interesting post on "communal software" which also points to issues with "free software" but takes a much more anti-capitalist stance. #foss #fsf https://codeberg.org/CommunalSoftware/website/src/branch/main/content/_index.md 2/2

@schaueho „Any new copyright licenses for use with communal software must be written with this consideration in mind to intentionally avoid fracturing the software ecosystem.”While I understand the genuine intention behind this, we should not confuse this with not supporting licenses that ensure the availability of freedoms that come from this software, aka #copyleft licenses. We cannot allow people or companies to distribute open source software as proprietary software.

@fluxx I'm not sure that licenses are the right way to propagate any political idea. There were great sessions at last years FOSDEM that discussed this at great length.Wrt. your point, it is important to recognize that it is easy to formulate a sentence like that but it is certainly not so easy to make it legally binding. Case in point: what does "distribute" mean? Is software as a service "distribution of software"? Also, you claim "we cannot". Of course, we could. The question is what are the reasons why we shouldn't. Free software is a political movement (and communal software clearly even more so). It is absolutely vital for any political movement to reflect on and re-evaluate it's goals and the measures it can and/or wants to take to achieve them.
