I've been using #Git for around a year now, and it's been fun. But a lot of the guides I've read have been way too detailed. So I decided to write my own guide.https://kevq.uk/getting-started-with-git-a-simple-beginners-guide/

@kev It would be also neat to mention git init command because git does not require to have a remote somewhere

@kevI'm a newbie git user and this helped a lot, thanks.Your recent post about "how to remove html extension from a url" is also very similar. I think it'll be good if you tag such posts as #guide or #how-to so that they're easy to find.

@yyp itโ€™s deliberately not a verbose guide. Most people will be using Got with GitHub, especially at first. This caters for those people.

@kev next up you're gonna want to learn log/reflog, cherry pick, and perhaps rebase. once you have those features under your belt, that's 99% of git.

@kev I get that, but this gives people a feeling that Git = Github which is clearly not the case. I think git init should be at least mentioned, I'm not asking for a verbose guide on it

@kevYeah hashtags are nice too, but what I really meant here was tags/categories on your website, lol ๐Ÿ˜…Right now this post has only two tags on your site - technology, web. Add a guide/how-to tag to such useful guide posts on your blog ๐Ÿ˜

@futureisfoss thatโ€™s a good point. I only really use categories, but maybe I should make use of tags too. Thanks for that.

@kev Both my work and personal git repos are a mess, I really need to tidy up all of my dev files... this usually means dropping them into a 'tidy' file ๐Ÿคฃ

@kevIf you want to clearly see the state of the repo I find this command very useful and easy to remember:get log --all --decorate --online --graph # get log a dog
