@ghostofColGlover @AS2 One thing I'm not sure of because it may be subject to biased hindsight:Vietnamese funerals are commonplace here. They don't take place in cemeteries. It's at the home of the deceased - where tiny roads are often blocked where everyone gathers in robes. A band, always with horns, plays marching band style music. It SEEMED like the number of funerals in late 2019 to early 2020 was noticeably, unusually high. Deaths everywhere - two on my little street.

@ghostofColGlover @AS2 Another:The Vietnamese language has no plosives, sibilants or fricatives: I.e., they do not spit like we do when they talk. At all. Not to mention the "sniff kiss". High and dry all the time. Language and social interaction habits don't lend themselves well to spreading. Social distancing? Not really. Not in Saigon, anyway. Around people all the time, close contact. Sun? Vietnamese HATE being in sunlight, and do everything to shield themselves from it.

@ghostofColGlover @AS2 Chinese coming into Vietnam are more likely to be small investors looking for business opportunities. Steady flow of Chinese in and out of North Vietnam all the time. Cut off as country went under lock down.North Vietnam is COLD in the winter. So, nice refrigerator to keep viruses fresher? As everyone huddles together and tries to stay indoors. South Vietnam is far more tropical and temperate. People spread out more and take in loads of fresh air all the time.

Migrant workers have pretty stiff competition here with an already-glutted labor market.Commerce, factories, etc., tend to be in the South, with more government related work in the North.They would also have to speak Vietnamese and would play hell even getting visas, let alone work permits. But...I'm rarely up north, so I can't speak from authority or experience on any of that.

@ghostofColGlover @AS2 I have a number of theories, none certain, BUT.Early Herd ImmunityI think it already swept over us in November-December 2019, before the world became aware. EVERYONE was sick. Everyone went to school and work sick. I had sudden pneumonia and scary shortness of breath. It didn't matter how deeply or often I breathed, I felt like I was slowly suffocating, not ridding myself of CO2. That lasted for almost 2 weeks.Still looking forward to taking a serology test.

Claustrophobic even.The ONLY way I could control it, especially when I was trying to get to sleep at night, was to CALM DOWN. Stop trying to take deep breaths, as it only made everything worse. I had to not exert myself and CONTENT MYSELF with whatever oxygen I could get with slow, normal to shallow breaths. And even that was scary, as the temptation to breathe deeply and fast was so great.

@StevenDouglas Steven same thing happened in December2019 at my daughters house. My daughter, her husband and my granddaughter all got sick for 2 weeks and couldn’t get rid of it. They didn’t want me to come over and get infected. It was horrible. They knew it was the flu but they had no idea it was covid. I’d barge in with soups etc. They kept thinking they were reinfecting each other. Thank God they were eventually fine.

I never take sick and don’t ever do flu shots. We, including my 77 yr old mom, were already all taking high doses of D3 for medical reasons and I think that’s what got us through. I’m sure we’ve had the Rona way back. But I’m not getting tested to give anyone my DNA. Mom has tested 4x for it, pre surgery. Always= negative.
