@coolboymew i don't believe i've cracked open my PS4, but uhh.... you could just manually set the clock every boot up, right? Or it could get it from NTP if you have a network connection?I assume it would only fail if the clock was never reset to certificates could be validated and no NTP available to sync to... ??

@coolboymew Can the battery not be replaced? Or is it that some DRM shit gets erased the second the battery goes out, and basically disabled the console?

@feld this strongly implies that if the battery dies, you probably couldn't do none of these without a working battery on the best case, and the whole system bricking on the worst caseExample: Super Metroid is a game you can easily finish on 1 sitting. However, if the battery dies, all saves are filled with a save file that kills you instantly at load, rendering the game unplayable until the battery is replaced

@coolboymew Thanks for the heads up. I have a PS4 but I don't think it's even plugged in. I rarely use it-- I was just using it as a Blu-Ray player for awhile but then I got a Blu-Ray player for Christmas and I kind of forgot about it. The only games I have on it are digital, and they're PS2 classics which I have physical copies of anyway for my actual PlayStation 2.

@coolboymew Did a quick read. The TL;DR is that the playstation achievements rely on accurate system clock, to prevent people from tricking the system when you got an achievement. If the clock battery dies out, the achievement list fails to work. If the achievements don't work, it won't let you run the game. It is fixable by connecting to PSN. While inconvenient, it's not a brick situation.

@alex @coolboymew Typical sony quality™. We are living in a world where weak sauce PCs are defeated by a fucking Nvidia Tegra. Even the Dreamcast handled that better this better than the PS4.
