@nekojanai I can't afford this right now, however I have just send a message to a group with a link to an article on the plan for facebook to make an instagramn for kids and suggested as we need to have conversations on privacy but also suggested we need to take back control with the use of mastodon etc and self host, so this is something I can promote, maybe DM me and I will see if I can at least spread the word (as you are also uk based it may help) I can promise anything though but we can try.

@nekojanai Ah cool, lets see if any get back on my concern, I think a lot of facebook users are blind to what facebook are doing, at the same time they are committed to safeguarding, which really does not add up very well from my viewpoint.

@zleap @nekojanai I agree. If you have any other options, I wouldn't use Facebook. The way they use people's data is unethical and dangerous. The more we move away from Facebook when setting up new projects and sites, the better.

@Starcake @nekojanai Indeed, but how do we get these groups off facebook.It is like the fabrese fabric conditioner advert saying people are 'nose blind' to bad odours, in a way facebook users seem to be blind to the activities, probably aware but not wanting to see this is happening.

Once the Kardashians are there along with the curious and the early adopters, the rubes will follow suit.So:1. $$$ - some kind of financial backing that allows for the development of the product and keeping it afloat until you can work out some sort of freemium model that doesn't require selling out users, or what's the point of moving away from FB?2. When the service hits the market it must be widely available and already polished, and able to scale quickly and handle a large influx of users if it catches on so people aren't put off by their first experience with it. It doesn't necessarily need to be available worldwide off the bat, but should be available in major European and Asian languages.3. There must be an Android and iOS app that isn't a hot turd and includes all of the features, because most people aren't going to use something if they can't also use it on their phone.4. Get celebrity endorsements so it becomes cool to be there.Basically, people are spoiled by the polished systems that are available and aren't going to inconvenience themselves with something substandard over an abstract concept like privacy. If someone can't figure out how to easily share a photo or photo album with their timeline, they aren't going to stick around.

@zleap @nekojanai why would you want to prevent that? People streaming during a shooting is evidence and may also be someone's last opportunity to leave a message for loved ones.

@Starcake @nekojanai I don't think it is 'just' live streaming of shootings we need to worry about, what about rape, child rape especially etc. While it is evidence,, as a member of a jury you could be influenced by that footage seen before, putting a trial at risk, meaning cases can be thrown out and quashed.Members of a jury in teh UK are not even allowed to look up about the case, they need to be impartial and rely on evidence given to the court. It will take a single case being used to appeal, and win that could really cause problems for future court cases.

Banning live streaming won't stop it, as members of the fediverse we may have solutions that put everyone first not the profits and shares of big tech companies first. @zleap @nekojanai Streaming child abuse online is already illegal and there are already clear paths of action to be taken depending on the country you live in and/or the country the user lives in.There's always going to be an element of whack-a-mole with any illegal activity on any platform.You're trying to address a problem that has already been solved.
