       Tax preparation companies like HR Block are such a racket. You start out doing your taxes and it's supposedly free, but then you get to certain points and they're like "You need deluxe to do this" or "You need premium to do this" and soon you're paying them $70.

       And the worst thing is, at the point they tell you that, you've already invested a ton of time entering information. So you just pay it so you can finish already.We really need to reform this. Doing taxes should be free on irs dot gov.

       @zorinlynx It gets even better when you consider that the tax prep companies have actively lobbied against both simplifying the code and against the IRS providing pre-populated returns. Anything to make taxes as opaque as possible, to keep themselves in business.

       @zorinlynx Nuh-uh! Taxes should just be free to do. You don't gotta do them, because they're just done and some money was taken out of your moneys account.
