Bitcoin is purely Austrian economics, Ethereum is more monetarist (for now, they change so much). Will be interesting to see what wins out. My bet: Ethereum-the-blockchain for transactions and contracts, bitcoin-the-asset for storing your wealth.

@lain I just recently realize what the Ethereum Classic split was all about. Moving away from classic system seems like it basically breaks the entire appeal of smart contracts, if I understand it correctly.

@PestToast I don't think so. Bitcoin had pretty much the same when a protocol error lead to 18 billion bitcoins to be generated, they also corrected the system by excluding that block in a hard fork. Since the Ethereum fork there have been several situations where people have lost money through badly written contract and they never "fixed" these, so I'd say those times are over.

@lain how the hell do you stay so informed about so much while also maintaining/developing pleroma?

@lain @PestToast but the Dao hack wasn't a bug in the protocol it was a compiler bug. And the reversal was spearheaded by victims and the founder himself while bitcoins printing error was a bug that was fixed via UASF...

@krruzic @PestToast sure, it's not the same viewed on that angle, but both were "system ending bugs", the DAO was such a large part of the ecosystem. Either way, the market spoke, Ethereum is the most popular platform for DeFi and NFTs and on some days is trading the same volume as bitcoin.
