Yep, the situation is unbelievable. My "remedy" so far is once I find a good recipe, rewrite the small fractions I need in markdown and push it to my git server. Would be very nice with a minimal recipe site though.

I'd like to see a site for aggregating and trending RSS Feeds. Something like https://quiterss.org , but on the web (RSS Social Media). Normies need to be given easy access to RSS so its popularity grows. I know some german recipe sites. I am sure you'll find some english ones too. After all it's the lingua france. Those sites I use are to specific recipie-types though. Like sites for bakery and another for preserving in good old WECK glasses and so on. I don't care too much but some may bother.

Is there some way of making a recipe into a standard document type that could then be converted into whatever format benefits the end user most? So, it could be converted to a .mobi for turning a kindle into a recipebook, or several choices of PDF for printing (depending on paper size or duplex printing) or if it's exceptionally short just a tweet that a bot can @ someone's account with (@username "pour 1 tbsp water in microwave safe cup, crack 1 egg add it, prick yolk with a fork, add garnish (eg salt, pepper, chopped chives) microwave at 700W for 60 seconds").

@Luke Smith, instead of using git, you can simply use php + mysql and create a simple html form that will accept new recipe submissions, then another static page for admins where they can review recipe submissions and move them to "published" status or delete if spam. The submission page could even include a file-upload field for uploading the requisite pictures of the recipe. It could store each recipe as e.g. a .md file, or a .html file inside a subdir with the pictures, in the "recipes" directory on the webserver. Finally a search page that queries the database &/or greps through recipe files and returns list of links to each recipe. Hah man maybe _I_ should make this.

So what you are saying, in the most abstract sense, is that an informational website should be a dev's avocation and not his vocation, because there is no business model for just putting up information. Funnily enough, I agree totally. The more pajeets and other economic exploiters and parasites are driven to extinction the better! @barcode You can easily convert markdown to pdf using pandoc. The calibre package has a command, ebook-convert, that can convert markdown to mobi (I don't own an ebook reader so i comment on how well it works).

@hobbit.habit php is way more based than js, even if the devs are cringe. But fine, use bash or whatever and accomplish exactly the same thing. The really nice thing about php is how easy it makes it to query DBs, manipulate strings, etc.. People complain a ton about php but guess what: php is like 90% of websites still and it does great at filling that particular role. It's simple and easy to read/write/maintain which makes it ideal for server-side stuff for websites.

I don't think the problem is ads as much as the problem is the trackers that go along with them. If you have a simple php script on the background that decides what ad to send, and then the ad is just simply a link and an image with some text, I don't think it would be an issue.There's nothing wrong with monetizing the website, so long as it doesn't compromise the functionality.
