@FediFollows I have been entirely pleased with gandi dot net for all three: domain name, wordpress and nextcloud. Solid.

@onan @FediFollows I use Gandi for Domains only and they are fine. Nothing to complain. So I really like them.

There are 100+ static sites hosted on tilde.team VM hosted by @ben. In fact https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/ is hosted by a solar powered RPi and it is doing more than great.If you decide to host Nextcloud on a VPS, use same VPS to host a static site. WordPress can be light but achieving light WP site can get expensive. @kev blog was a very light WP site.@steve @FediFollows

I use the cheapest tier VPS on Hetzner to host @yunohost for my personal services such as Matrix, XMPP, WallaBag etc.I have no complaints.It costs ~ 9€/month including daily backups.Hetzner 👍NameCheap is cheap only for the first year.Its DNS is easy to use but it has some weird limitations that makes receiving emails to my yunohost instance impossible.NameCheap 👎@steve @FediFollows

Do you have to have a dynamic site generator like WordPress?Can't your site be a static site?Jekyll, Pelican, Hugo, Zola and similar SSGs are sufficient for blog and news sites.@FediFollows

If one has the dedication, can shitpost anywhere.But no, I don't like keeping s**t around, so I don't keep it static. Instead let it go down in ever flowing "feed".@witti

@murtezayesil @kev @steve @FediFollows if you avoid most plugins and big themes, WordPress can be plenty fast/lightweight. for vps hosting I generally recommend ovh or hetzner. I use namesilo.com for domain registration.
