The man was terribly abused, and he let it destroy him.In other words, the abusers won.I'm not BLAMING him, since I have my own rage problems.BUT.I just negotiated a deal with my Vegas brother that gets him out of my life fast and for good.The terms don't matter. I no longer have to wait for others to get their act together.I'm finally totally on my own, which all I want.So it was worth giving up a lot to make my brother agree to simply ship everything to Vegas instead of going through it here.I always wondered why people told me that it was vital that I forgive.I never forgive. I simply disconnect. When I disconnect, the anger no longer rules my life. Apologies don't mean anything to me. Frankly, I don't believe them.

And apologies are for the benefit of the transgressor. When people wrong me, I just want them gone. It's not necessary for therm to apologize, because they no longer matter.Sure, I still have residual anger, but it doesn't consume me. I happen to believe that EVERYONE--even those with severe mental illness--knows right from wrong.Wrongdoers just don't care.So when people transgress, I cut them off and move on.

@Mirror EXACTLY.Now I'm free of him, and I don't have to find a temporary home while he futzes around here for another year and half.The houses are stacked to the ceilings with JUNK that my pack-rat parents couldn't toss.I rented a dumpster for my place and tossed EVERYTHING except for my library, my model kits, and various mementos I picked up along the way.Waiting for my parents and then my brother was agony. @ThomasWic I disconnected from my brother in much the same way as you. He abused me physically, emotionally...you name it. He held loaded guns to my head when we were kids, smothered me with pillows, beat me...At the ripe old age of 22, I walked away and have had little to nothing to do with him for 30+ years. I forwarded the email back to her along with the statement that I never wanted to hear from her again. She kept writing back that it was a mistake, that she never meant to send the email at all to anyone.I was meant to get that email so I'd know what a deceiving snake she was. And so I did.

@ThomasWic I experienced someone being third party offended on the part of a difficult coworker who happened to be black. I got "canceled" at work because I dared to be critical of this person. I was deemed racist. The offended party was white. I said nothing racist. Just that it was a challenge to work with the person who happened to be a minority because of their attitude. So much of this is going on, it's totally out of control. Perception is a beautiful thing LOL.

@ThomasWic my Mom was always amazed that I had the ability to just walk away and not care after a breakup or lost friendship.My brothers wife wanted constant conflict. After years of trying to keep the family functioning, she not only cut off our side of the family, but hers as well.Years later they tried to make peace with us again.
