Would you use the Brave Search Engine? If no, please say why.

@fatboy They don’t exactly have a good track record in respecting privacy of their users. A search engine looks like an opportunity to grab more data and show ads. It will all be an innocuous ‘mistake’ when they get called for breaking user trust.

@fatboy It's Cliqz. Until the Cliqz people say there's something up, I'm prepared to use it.

@fatboy they have done terrible things. And they're just another advertising company. If they wanted to get away from Google, Brave wouldn't be based in chromium. They do the search engine just because they want to spy more on you. You'll see a lot of privacy "influencers" recommending it. They pay this people to recommend Brave in their videos. Just use Searx in Firefox or in Palemoon or whatever browser you like that isn't based in chromium

@thumb I would've been more happy if they forked YaCy and started improving it because it guarantees the privacy of users with algorithm/tech. There's no way of getting search log for anyone. But on the other hand, I want a competitor of the big tech. It will force them to improve things (at least on the outside). And looking forward to see it being FOSS. It is not clear whether they'll open up their source code.

@fatboy I'm puzzled that anyone trusts Brave at all. Their track record speaks for itself.

@fatboy If they're 1. open source 2. have an open API to integrate with searx3. I can block their 1st party ads with uBlock Origin4. html.duckduckgo.com (No JS version) / duckduckgo.com/lite mode5. have good search results obviously (this takes years to develop)Until then I'll be sticking with ddg, even though it's proprietary.I made a short video on that. https://polarhive.ml/videos/notes/brave-is-launching-an-independent-alternative-to-google-search

@fatboy No, because it is based on Chromium and Google is navigating the Chromium project. Plus I want to help diversify the browser market by using non-chromium-based OpenSource browsers. Hence I use Firefox and qutebrowser.P.s: The only Chromium-based browser I install as backup browser is Vivaldi as it is suuuuper customizable.

@fatboy I don't plan on using the Brave Search Engine because Brave is not my primary brower and Duck Duck Go is good for me.

@fatboy I'm waiting to see if it's really a search engine or just another meta search tool.
