@colonelj Even if this seems like a rhetorical question I feel obligated to try to give my opinion, shit as it probably is.Old TV shows always show people's parents making them take piano lessons to learn music so that seems like it was a thing back then, but you never see that anymore. Maybe people just never learn how to play. The little organ thing the Doors used is kinda neat, too, but it's also dead.

@bbb @colonelj buuuut they make the beats/house/edm/trap/whatever with what amounts to an expensive soundboard with those notes kinda preprogrammed into it, right? Who played the notes in the first place? I mean... do they sit with a keyboard and play the music themselves? I listen to many different kinds of music but I'm a words guy not a musician and I cant say edm is my thing at all.I did have a disclaimer that my opinion was probably shit on the subject. :)

@MisterRogersSnapped @bbb @colonelj Musicians and listeners alike can't deny there's an authenticity to actually playing the music rather than just arranging it and hitting play that isn't recreated with most electronic music. Many prominent hip hop artists have backing bands now, while the electronic world has barely gotten finished with designating genre by tempo. Jazz is a perfect example of something that couldn't even be recreated in a DAW or a Tracker, it could never hope to achieve what Jazz players like Monk did. That being said, electronic instruments, while making it easier in some ways to make music, are still useful tools for music making, they're just highly abused.

@bbb @MisterRogersSnapped @colonelj Thanks for the comparison, I'm flattered. Did I say that electronic music is plopping notes into a tracker? I know musicians who only use trackers that make amazing music. The main point is that music as a performance art is dead with electronic music, and there is a great lack of authenticity with a majority of mainstream electronic artists.
