@stux part of the reason being that even the paid services don't have some of the rare movies I'm looking for. There's this one called The Addiction that I've only been able to find bits and pieces of on youtube and such.

@stux I do pay for Netflix. It's got enough cop shows. And SOME good anime here and there too but that, I watch by alternative means.

@stux The only streaming services I use are free like the free Amazon prime or PlutoTV otherwise I just download the movie I want.

@stux It definitely down to selection, and to some extent, your personal sense of culture. My family pays for the big 3, and soon Disney once the Verizon contracts end.Personally, I want to avoid the deluge of new "original content" that is crowding out every service, making anything else a bitch to find.I want to be a lot more deliberate in what I watch, so I search what I want on Roku, and either rent or pay the service for the show or movie I want.

@stux The streaming services I had paid for are VRV/Crunchyroll, Shudder, Criterion, and briefly CBS, until I realized I no longer give a fuck about Star Trek anymore. Clarice might have peaked my interest, but I never watched the Hannibal show, and I rather read horror these days.I sometimes get an urge to revive my Scribd account, so I get Mubi. Some things I can't even pay to stream unless I have cable, so fuck them. There is so much that exists, I just can't care anymore.

@stux One more thing, RedBox is the unsung hero of this whole situation. Renting is the cheapest, physically and through their streaming service.Ripping the films is probably super easy too. Also, uuuuuuhhhh, your local library. Full fucking stop.
