Women in the United States: I AM FURIOUS. For those saying "work with the Repugnicans" they just showed their true colors. The compromise will be religious exemptions. Neither side gives a shit about sex based rights. For all the alliances I have seen, Repugs were quick to go after only what they cared about. The attack from both parties on lesbians and gays continues.

@MountainSlideMama I'm freaking out. Someone help. All I can find is proposals from people outside of Congress, wanting a compromise with religious exemptions. I can't find that it has actual support among Senate Republicans.

@Cousin_Isobel I just read the Repugnicans in the senate have signaled they are willing to compromise in exchange for religious exemptions, I am trying to find the headline (I use a news app). It's refreshed but scrolling backward between the op-ed in the New York Times, and a sea of articles like this one you know same-sex spaces won't be a priority. @MountainSlideMama Sigh. This isn't good, but I'm somewhat relieved that it is, for now, a totally separate bill. Even if it ended up being an amended version of the Equality Act, it would have to go back to the House, right? Anything would have to pass both chambers of Congress, in one single form.My hope is that the Democrats hate "religious liberty" as much as they hate women's rights, and that they won't stand for this, either. If we end this session of Congress with each party yelling, "MY shitty act that erases women!"/"No, MY shitty act that erases women!", then it will be a better result than I've been fearing ever since the Democrats won both Georgia Senate seats.

Hundreds of women are expected to attend.Thank you for getting back to me right away with the articles. I just wrote to my Republican Senator again, explaining what an acceptable compromise would and wouldn't be and asking him to block the existing Equality Act with all his might.

@Cousin_Isobel @MountainSlideMama Honestly the democrats are going to hate this religious liberty move by the republicans. They specifically didn’t include religious exemptions for where women are required to have separate spaces because it makes it clear that trans women are actually men and trans men are actually women. I don’t know if the Democrats will be willing to compromise there.

Neither are religious people. We can ally as women.The Fairness for All Act was also introduced in 2019. It is worthwhile to seek out other resources. Brandon Showalter at the Christian Post does good work. So does Madeleine Kearns at the National Review.Also go directly to groups' own websites to see what they are saying. For instance, I just read heritageaction.com/toolkit/equality-act Their talking points and call notes include lots more than religious issues.
