Hi :) Could anyone help me #interpret this #errormessage? I get it every time I try to #follow this #account here (@clayogra) from one of my accounts on friendica.feneas.org. The weird thing is, I can follow any other account on mstdn.social from friendica.feneas.org without any problems. #Thanks so much in advance!!!#mastodon #friendica #fediverse #protocol #error #help #support

@clayogra Is the storage folder writable by the server/service/user?

@stux Yes, also looked to me like that. And in general I would just have guessed, it's a general problem between friendica.feneas.org and mstdn.social. But the problem persists only for this account, which I find very weird...

@clayogra No worries mate ๐Ÿค— It seems the map: /var/www/html/storage is not writable, could you check what permission it has? And sub maps

(1/2) Just to maybe specify it a little more. These two screenshots show what happens if I try to follow clayogra@mstdn.social from my friendica.feneas.org account:

@stux No, I only signed up there... I can follow anyone without problems. Only not clayogra@mstdn.social... It would be weird if I got blocked there, as I didn't interact with friendica.feneas.org yet except trying to follow my own account...

@stux There is https://friendica.feneas.org/friendica, but it's very... small... I signed up on that instance because it offers all possible plugins, and allows for the creation of multiple profiles with only 1 account. It's also one of the largest friendica instances. But it now seems to me, that it's not really being moderated or anything, which I find strange, and even stranger though, that interactions isn't working with only one account on mstdn.social, while otherwise totally fine ๐Ÿ˜…

@clayograCheck out under which user the friendica program is running; you need to grant that user write access permissions to that the directory mentioned in your error.@stux

@yuki @clayogra Yip! /var/www/html/storage needs chmod -R 775 or some cases 777 also chown to server user (most cases www-data)

@clayogra @yuki I'm afraid so.. It's for sure something local on that server that prevents new remote files from being downloaded and written away

@stuxGiven that friendica is a php system, you'd want to check out the user running Apache (or whatever webserver is running friendica)@clayogra

@yuki @clayogra Indeed! I still wonder if there's a way to give the webserver read/write permission over a directory while working on the files with a user account :thinktink: Sometimes I use $USER:www-data and other times www-data:www-data and rewrite for edits and back but that's a pain xD

@clayograExactly. Rather than a friendica problem, it's a general Unix problem and the sysadmin has to fix it.(Tl;dr: the person who installed and configured friendica did it wrong ๐Ÿ˜‹ )@stux

@stuxThat's feasible, and not very complicated. a) You create a group for the user, e.g. group "johnny" for the user Johnny. Or maybe a different group, say, "johnnyshared"b) you give that group write access permissions to that directory and subdirectories. Usually you do this by changing the owner group (only a group can own a directory, but with ACL you can give access to more groups. It's definitely more complicated, tho).c) You add user "web" (or whatever user Apache's running from) to the group "johnnyshared". Alternatively: If you decided NOT to change the owner group to that directory, you just add the web user to the directory's current group.(You find out which group owns the directory by doing ls -l.)Ta-da! The web process can now read and write Johnny's shared files.@clayogra
