@Monchalant Nay. I've posted a few times about Ovarit here (I'm sure some have gotten sick of it by now :P). It's nothing like r/GC was. There is heavy-handed removal of posts/comments -- you are strongly encouraged to toe the line, and if you disagree, be prepared to have your comments deleted -- even if you disagree with libfem principles. Some of the frequent users are awful, they get so defensive easily and can be very libfemmy. There's also been quite a few male posters, which some of the regulars fawn over. Oh, and you also aren't notified when your comments get removed, so you wont actually know if and when you are being silenced unless you actually go back and re-read the threads. Also, this might sound rude, but I get the feeling some of the frequent users there have little life experience (or maybe little experience in online spaces?) beyond their own bubbles. I can't put my finger on it. Spinster in comparison has much more rich conversations imo, and you're able to 'agree to disagree' on many issues. Sometimes it's civil, sometimes it's not, but women here are usually quick to move past things. I know some users intersect, but it just feels like I can breathe easier here. Not to discourage you or anything :P It's still worth checking out for yourself.

@diversity_racket @Monchalant "Be civil" may be a sticking point for a lot of previously-banned women. Tone-policing according to some ephemeral quotient dismays.I have no defense of Ovarit, but I am glad it exists.Not gonna be someone else's "civil" when I already grew up on and live Emily Post. Not every idea deserves civility. Some ideas deserve profanity, and I am grateful women that speak the truth exist.I am sure Reddit colonized bc it allowed so much "uncivil" speech, thus I won't be trying to design a new LadyIt.

@Monchalant I am struggling with the rules. I don't care for the layout of Reddit either, though. I hate Facebook, but I did like the way the site is laid out, with a newsfeed, groups, chat options...

@MountainSlideMama @Monchalant I've more or less given up posting on Ovarit, as I don't understand the circle rules, but I'm happy to read and comment when I feel like it. I've also realised Ovarit is a better place to ask for help/advice because the posts 'stay up' longer and are read by more people--Spinster is like Twitter, you can ask for help or advice but your post just disappears after a while as it gets older so not that many people will necessarily see it in the moment.

@Hollahollara @diversity_racket @Monchalant "Civil Behavior" at least in my opinion is for discussion that are fundamentally neutered, in order to have the full breath of any discussion there needs to be at least a measure of honesty in that neither party should have to filter thoughts or actions in order to placate the other.I say this as someone who has very vocal discussions that are not always compromising but argueably more productive in that they allow for both parties to give and receive there points without the confusion of overly complicated human dynamics designed to signal distress to topics and subjects that could otherwise be sorted in a few sentences i.e. question, answer, discourse, solution, etc. without having to resort to polite monologue without flow or discussion relevent to the topic at hand.

@error @Monchalant @diversity_racket I wholeheatedly agree. r/GC migrated and hosted with their own Utopian Ideal. Is it current? That is up for debate. I guess this is missing how much they care about what users want, and more about for what opportunity Ovarit mods have been waiting. Every space you don't make becomes some other's space. That is real and fair.Perhaps they want an uberpolite kinda-lady space. Oh, did @lezpaulguitars make a space? But one that tolerates "uncivil" women? I guess so.A lot of women want to be rude. Why not?

@MountainSlideMama @Monchalant I almost gave it up in a fit of pique for the same reason. At one point about 90% of posts I'd started were deleted for being in the wrong circle. Even when I'd spent ages agonising where to put them. I've got a bit better at working it out but even now I'm reluctant to post anything that's a bit ambiguous. It's not massively encouraging for newbies.

@Monchalant its more structured than spinster so it feels better for sharing news articles/finding resources and info but spinster feels better for conversation.I prefer spinster but I have an ovarit account and I post on there once in a great while.
