@LostInCalifornia I totally agree with the first paragraph you have quoted. I read the article to see if someone had reached my conclusions. I am particularly interested in the reason the system of patriarchy exists across time and space. The author Sarah Dithum does a fair job and asks a good question of how to make something happen like what Robinson is talking about. 'Robinson says towards the end that men must “cede power for parity with others”, and deserves credit for that; he’d deserve more credit if he outlined exactly how that might happen.'I disagree that men must cede power for parity with others as a way make things better for women. I don't see a way to make it happen, and more importantly I do not think it will have the desired effect. Some of the things Robinson touches on are spot on and it is good to see people exploring this avenue of thinking.

@LostInCalifornia I like the way you think. The problem I'm having is the definition of "men" lol . I'm often not the best at conveying my ideas, but I'll try. If we could with a magic wand make every straight couple relationship gender neutral as far as who is the head of the household, who decides how the goods and services are distributed in the household, well then what?You would have the same patriarchal system only half the men would be women. Men are trapped in the same overarching system that women are in, just in a slot that appears to have more power. The world is but a stage and we are but actors. You can cast a woman to play the man's part, but the play still has the same outcome. To really address this you need to understand why this system has been in place for so long and why it came about. More people should think for themselves like you do, but it is hard in current year.That is my 2 cents.

@LostInCalifornia There may be some truth to that. If you ask a typical man if he would, he'd rather not. I am not so sure that all men are capable of change. I sure hope I don't want to turn into a masculine apologist. Some men have a nature that cannot be changed much. It may sound like I'm saying don't blame men, they are born that way....lol. Many men have changed, although some be be suspect in their true motives.

@LostInCalifornia There are a lot of men like that. Men are like that maybe because of learned behavior, but I think it mainly because women let them. Now I really am sounding like a male apologist. When men do something wrong, it is women's fault? Not my point. My point is that women have within them the power to change that aspect of male behavior. Refuse cohabitation for roommates who do not do their share of the chores. A marriage is a partnership. The exact details of the arrangements is for each couple to decide between them. If one of the perks is that I get to play games while the housework gets done, that sounds like a good deal. Men may expect to get away with it because of learned behavior, but women let men get away with it, probably because of learned behavior too. Enlighten me, I don't know how women think. Why do so many women stay with guys who would rather not help out around the house?
