@djsundog Honestly it depends on the friend. I have friends that had hotmail addresses up until last year, they are immune to tech shame

@pagrus roughly 90% of email does not reach her inbox. I have tried to help her set up whitelisting for stuff and she still doesn't get it. The interface is awful and there's other issues, too, but...yeah. Preaching to the choir here. honestly, Gmail would be an improvement. but asking her to switch at this point is just not going to happen, so. it's the whole concept of, "what need does this serve and why won't this person switch?" m.social might fall under that umbrella. @pink @djsundog

@pagrus like (to return to the previous point), if someone wants basically-twitter-but-not-Jack-Dorsey, they're going to end up on m.social and you're going to have a hard time convincing them to switch, because smaller instances don't have the same feel. you can try to pressure them, but don't be surprised if they don't switch (or just stop following you, which, meh). @pink @djsundog

@hafnia @pink @djsundog I have had a very low success rate trying to talk people into joining any instance to begin with, but I suspended mast.soc recently so I guess it's a non-issue twice over now?

@pagrus yeah, I mean, it's a non-issue for you. my instance federates with it and I have a few people I follow from it, so I'm just like, "eh, whatever, ti's fine". there's definitely divergent values in terms of, "what does this person want from their experience on the fediverse", but I don't think my take is any more valid than theirs, so live and let live. I keep thinking about switching instances, but...meh. @pink @djsundog

@pink moderation, mostly. I had a pretty "great" time of being harassed recently by people from instances that should have been suspended but weren't. Reports to the mods were met with crickets, so I silenced stuff on my end. Bit annoying. Whether that's enough to switch over, I dunno. I mostly agree with the way the place is run otherwise, and I don't know where I'd move to, so I'm here for now. @pagrus @djsundog
