I know I said the freeze date should have been postponed, but GNOME OS 40 is looking real nice to me so far. To me. I hope that’s the reaction most people have when the final update drops.

Which BTW, mind you. This is not intended to be the last version bringing in redesigns in the near future. More changes are expected to arrive, and were delayed on purpose to ease the transition and polish stuff out.

Updating from Debian 10 to 11 is going to be something. It’s probably also gonna be a big gap to upgrade from 11 to 12. :blobcatthink:

Ah, apparently timings are so tight it’s unlikely Debian 11 will ship with GNOME 40.Oof.https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/kv94xj/can_we_expect_gnome_40_in_debian_bullseye/

@doxxy it’s not that bad, won’t be much of an issue as long as you don’t depend on Debian stable for your desktop x3

So, OK, Debian 10 has 3.30. Jumping into 3.38 is a soft enough transition, especially since Debian adopted the current theme anyway.Just imagine going from Debian 11 to 12 in 2023, by that time the GNOME version to adopt would be 43-44, everything will have been rewritten in GTK4, and the shell should be fully convergent and phone-compatible. That’s gonna be something.

@xerz I don't but I know some people do! Was hoping to see GNOME 40 on openSUSE though. Not sure if it will make it for Leap 15.3 or not.

@doxxy for July? well, unless they go the Ubuntu way and complain about broken stuff (which, OpenSuse doesn’t ship with custom GNOME extensions), it should arrive in time :blobcatthink:

@xerz Oh, well this is good news! I mostly use SUSE distros myself and my servers all run it. I'm hoping to get certified one day. :3 #SUSE

@doxxy Hmm, I don’t personally know what’s special about Suse these days, other than their devs doing upstream contributions. I miss the Suse Studo days where it was easy to make your own distro, tho :blobcatuwu:

@doxxy regardless, glad it works for you and good luck with your certification!
