@yuki_is_bored What alternative do you suggest? I don't use Discord but haven't found anything that my friends will use instead. Some join me on Mumble when we are playing games but I am left out of all conversations.

@nebunez I've never used Discord but it seems that Movim has many of the features that are required to replace it. I use it for two years now and I love it. You and your friends can easily join an existing server (or self-host) and create a chatroom with just a few mouse clicks. Or just have a conversation with a friend. You'll probably miss some of the fancy Discord features but Movim is FLOSS. @yuki_is_bored

@Seferi If you like programming languages developed by google and do not need continius integration then codeberg is a good choice.I really like what @codeberg does. I just dislike Go and have project that use CI.And it is hard to move a whole team from one hosting platform to another.

@yuki_is_bored @tirifto @enigmatico @Ninmi @replikvlt mattermost is spyware, rocketchat is buggy garbo, and all of them have to go through a centralized push service run by the developer of the mobile app (matrix included) if people want to use them in realtime on mobile, which is pretty much 100% of the userbase these days.

NGL, most features that most people uses in discord, matrix, rocket.chat and others already have it. They can and are a bit buggy but is still an good alternative.And being on the middle of the road replacement won't ever change, discord has a bigger team, years ahead of development and more testers and money than all projects together, it's a cat and mouse race, when matrix implements all features from today discord, discord will already have 5 more and people will gave the same excuse.

I use Element from F-Droid on LineageOS without running any gapps and it seems pretty usable to me. It's possible incoming messages are a bit delayed, but it's never really caused me problems.

@brad @yuki_is_bored @enigmatico @Ninmi @tirifto @replikvlt in apple land then everything has to go via APNS, and only the app publisher is allowed to push notifications to the app, so every federated server has to send notifications for all users of the app back to the publisher's server to be proxied to apple, to be sent to the phones.this is why i can't have notifications for toot replies or DMs or stuff
