       @CautiousOptimist My husband is a very successful trader.  A good book and newsletter which has been helpful to him is Brian Perry’s Cash Machine.  Focuses on high paying dividend stocks.  My husband spent years reading, studying, losing money, and over time he learned, developed his own system and is now making money.  If you don’t have lots of time to master the craft, do some research to find a good, reliable broker who will advise you.  Very important to research, many are incompetent.
