@Genen @defango Wow. I loved Eric Hunley on YT. Maybe he will also go to Locals or something?Right now Locals makes you pay "per-famous-person", but I think they're working on a model where you can pay a reasonable fee to watch all their content from everyone for one flat fee.Won't be long before we just have not only two internets but two economies: 1) Democrats or 2) everybody else.

@WClayFerguson @defango Locals sucks... it's running on Amazon. There is nothing proprietary about it. They took 2 years to basically cobble a system from open source that runs on amazon. The only thing Locals did was provide another revenue for Dave (good for him btw) but it did nothing to decentralize.

@Genen @defango Yeah I knew they were a centralized service and server, so not really a part of the fediverse, but at least a stepping stone to keep Youtube from completely destroying them overnight. of course if Locals is on AWS they're gonna get shut down soon anyway, based on the current trends.

@Genen @defango Tim has definitely mentioned the Fediverse a lot lately. I hope he sets up a Mastodon eventually. I emailed Tim about my own platform Quanta, but Quanta's not quite mature enough for prime time yet...but I still wanted them to see it.

@Genen @defango Also anyone who'se not on the Fediverse almost can't be trusted at this point not to censor themselves. For example on Youtube people are afraid to say how they really feel, so that's really not good. I don't want to hear someone much once I know they're self censoring and by definition "not" being fully truthful. Truthfulness and "Self Censoring" can't both happen at the same time.

@defango @WClayFerguson Good. Did you hear my last episode? I talked about the need to decentralize, federate, and allow encapsulation so you can move hosts easily if needed and come back online. The only real weak point right now is the DNS, which they have not used much (they did with silk road if you recall and a few others) but which ultimately is the weak point for anyone publishing information. You don't own your DNS... you're leasing it. Which is why I'm a fan of IPFS!

@defango @WClayFerguson Ya I think Amazon is fine for totally non-controversial stuff like making a non-political game or something.. or just doing massive AI analysis for the oil industry, but for anything political, with opinions, ya better to be off amazon and preferably out of the US juristictions.

@defango @Genen I see a whole market opening up for companies that want to setup and manage instances of Mastodon as a service. I have that as one of my potential business models for Quanta.wiki also. Setup and manage and scale instances for organizations or individuals.

@WClayFerguson@noagendasocial.com @Genen@noagendasocial.com I'm doing that but for Misskey, I just see a much more potential with the codebase and resource wise it makes more sense. Ruby on Rails is only good for 100k users till you have to patch in things to keep it running. So far we have gitmo.life and gitmo.tv running peertube and we will be expanding those together sometime next month, after we add in Crypto

We looked at Mastodon because of Gab using it and saw flaws in scaling that just didn't sit right with me. I decided to use misskey because I liked the codebase and understand Node.js is designed for stuff like this. Ruby is not
