@ndanes @delta uhm.. am I wrong or is delta chat just a re-designed email client?

@metalune I mean, kinda? There's the way it handles encryption on the backend, and how "chats" are displayed on the front end that no other email client provides.

@ndanes well.. I really like that actually.. unless the end-to-end encryption means that if people send me message, it won't actually be decryptable from my normal client (aerc, https://aerc-mail.org). it means that people will just message me using email which i am completely fine with!

@metalune I've tried the app in the past, and it looks very much like WhatsApp. But again, I don't know anyone else who uses it and most people I know don't prefer to use email for instant communications. But I like it very much as a "backup" chat option since most people have an email account these days. The technical hurdle is for folks who don't know how to setup IMAP properly or don't use it.

@ndanes yeah.. I guess so, but I think using xmpp is essentially the same in this case as it is like email.. but for IM, so.. *shrugs*

@metalune yeah I get that. But most people don't have an xmpp account, but they do have an email address!

@ndanes very true, but that's what I like about mailbox.org.. you can actually use your email account as an XMPP account! (I don't use that feature myself because.. uh, I'm not stoopid enough to make 1 provider control all of my communication) but for "normies" it must be really nice
