@stux we have some nuts like that here too, in our parliament. one of their mottos was "1 vale 1" (one person is worth like any other person). that's just another version of FREE SPEECH. you can say all the possible bullshit because what you say has the same value of anybody else. 🙄

@ranx Hm.. interesting! :thinkergunsunglasses: If you don't have a public position I think you can say everything you want BUT that doesn't mean people will like it or even accept it :blobcatgiggle: Free speech is okay but it brings the risk of people shutting you up or kicking you out since they don't wanna listen to that 'crap' :ablobwink: And they have the right I guess But if you're in a public position I think rules need to apply.. @stux I think here in Europe we have a lot more "antibodies" vs extreme positions like those we see in the USA. we had totalitarian regimes ruling and we know what's that like (maybe not personally but it's in our DNA... in our constitutions... check and balance of powers). they fought (some) totalitarian regimes, they didn't have one "in house" so they don't basically know what's like to live like that

@ranx @stux As an American, we *absolutely* know what totalitarianism looks like because we propped it up all around the world 😉 But yeah, I guess you're right - we've always had a 'democracy' and the fundamental fights (over slavery, women's rights, civil rights movement, etc) did look different.That being said, certain groups (indigenous Americans, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ people, etc) have *always* had a kind of authoritarianism foisted upon them here.(1/2)

@stuxRepublicans gerrymander (unfairly drew) districts when they were in power after the 2010 Census and drew all of these bizarre districts where they had enough nutjobs to always win.It's another reason for Americans to vote Republicans out and get nonpartisan redistricting.

@stux😄 Maybe back then! I think they misunderstood people's affinity for cheating. There are too many people who won't play by the rules. It’s one reason having a fair democracy is important. Then there's the whole issue of a certain group wanting to maintain white supremacy- definitely a part of it. So much to fix.
