“The LAMY safari is a timelessly modern pen for the young - and the young at heart - and is in a class of its own. It created a stir during its market launch at the beginning of the eighties with its avant-garde design and its prominent, spring-loaded clip. It also features extraordinary robustness.” -from the Lamy website

@chriswere I'm a massive 'hippy', but I have always felt, in the depths of my soul, that blue ink shows an unclean mind, and signals the collapse of society.

@chriswere Lamy good! When I drew, I drew with Safaris and Studios but definitely prefer Lamys to other similarly-priced pens.

@chriswere so fountain pen connoisseurs. How do I decide what size nib to choose? I am correct in assuming a fine nib would be better for a beginner?

@berry @chriswere start with medium. It's most-likely to be right and it'll glide nicer than a thinner nib.

I have only one question reagarding that ink colour anecdote: do british pupils write in black ink at school ?In France, it is assumed that pupils will write in blue, or black if a title or whatever, underline in red and make corection in green. Teachers would write mostly in black and correct in red.The hippy colours are light green, pink instead of red, purple or blue sky instead of blue. This is more or less what you would find anywhere in France. Some teachers sometimes use green instead of red because they think red just looks too depressing for younger pupils. Also, a teacher one gave me a 0/20 because I didn't write in normal blue!

@uoou @berry @chriswere I would agree with @uoou, though of note is that "western" medium nibs (e.g. Germany like Lamy) will be broader than Japanese nibs (e.g. Pilot), so there's a bit more play in the nib size than one might think simply going off of the names of the size.

@chriswere I really like Lamy fountain pens. I really like your review. I am writing with a converter instead of using single use cartridges. My pen fell on the floor twice within the last 2 years. The tip unfortunately broke. Now, I am happy that Lamy pens allow to replace the tip for only a few Euros.

@chriswere@share.tubeThis is my long and steady pen. I have others, but my Lamy has been the one that sticks around.@ChrisWere@toot.wales
