2/ First, we should get a firm grasp on what "mandating vaccines" actually means. we should do this because most of the strawmen arguments conflate the term before the discussion even begins. When you say the government is "mandating vaccines", It should mean that they make a decree or a law stating "you must get X vaccine or suffer Y penalty" whatever Y is(jail, fine, probation, death etc). 3/ We live in the freest country on the face of the earth. This also applies to your healthcare. In america, you can be as fat and as unhealthy as you would like to be and no one but yourself can change that. The government cannot force you to get a vaccine as much as they can force you to eat healthy, excercise, or take your high blood pressure pills. 6/get hep b, tdap, flu, mmr, and varicella vaccines. This was in 2010. Had I not wanted these vaccines, I would have just chose a rotation at a place that doesn't mandate it like a nursing home or clinic. This doesn't really count as a mandate. You do have a choice.

14/healthcare professionals who generally are not anti-vax and also understand that a hospital is a hotbed for some of the most communicable deadly diseases. However, say if mcdonalds made it part of their terms of employment that you had to be vaccinated, there wouldn't be consensus to the need and the company would lose potential workers to other fast food chains. @watch4thedrop Yep. A few years ago my husband had an incarcerated hernia and needed emergency surgery. Half the ER staff had masks on. I asked why, they said because they chose not to have the Flu vaccination. While their were consequences for their decision, they were still allowed to work. My sister just got the Covid vaccine because she is an EMT and has some autoimmune issues, not BECAUSE her company said she had to, though they encouraged it and got her on a list to do so.

@watch4thedrop I have kids. They get vaccinated for highly communicable diseases for school. Covid is essentially a zero risk infection for school age kids. And the few teachers for which there is really any risk at all that teach them are in the first wave or two of vaccinations. There is no reason kids should have not been back at school in person and helping with our herd immunity, other than the fact that there are shithead students there slowing my kid down.

That commercial that plays with the little girl stretching her arm out for her test and instead gets a dog to love on her? That so hits home for me.To this day, I detest blood draws. @watch4thedrop The "Slippery Slope" comparison is so dumb. Do these people not realize you need to provide proof for various vaccinations for things like schooling (K-12 and college)? For example, traveling to Africa requires you have to vaccine certifications against things like yellow fever. Hardly "Hilter-ist."

@Katiedid I'm only 30 so by the time i went to school, most vaccinations were already widespread and no longer needed to be streamlined through the schools. They might do it for covid though

@JimmyPerkins healthy young people get covid, do they not? they also spread it to unhealthy old people. yes. it's that simple. your employer can require whatever they want from you as a term of employment. probably some limits on breaking laws or committing crimes but even if they do ask that from you, the answer can easily be "no thank you. i'll work elsewhere"

@watch4thedrop this depends on the county. No all require exceptions to be based on religion or health issues. In Miami you can send an unvaccinated child to school as long as you have applied for an exception. Schools in Hasidic area of Brooklyn don’t require van either. Hence there was a measles outbreak last year.
